Forget it...I didn't convey the concern well and it was completely misunderstood (with good reason).

Hello erasescars
I think you should treat this man professionally. If he gets on your nerves because of a previous incident with someone else, this to me is not professional. If he does not try and enforce his religious views on you or anyone else within his work station vicinity...then your dislike of him is not professional in my opinion.
I think you need to communicate with him like you would any other employee...and you would need to stipulate your boundaries. If he is using the office resources for his own personal use...does it bother you because it is JW related or because it is personal? For example, would you be bothered if it were cleaning rosters for his children's play centre or something like that? I believe that he would refrain from using your resources if you told him not to. And, if he should choose to intrude into company time to talk to other co-workers about his faith, I would speak to him about this and ask him not to.
Even though this man is a jw....he no doubt has a family and he has all the other concerns that we all share...such as mortgages and school fees for kids etc etc. I don't think you should treat him any differently because of his beliefs and you MUST maintain your own professionalism in the work place.

Thank you, I FULLY agree with you. I DO treat the man with respect and dignity...always have. I hired him because I thought he was good. This man IS a good man in my eyes. If I didn't see the tracts everytime I walk into his area it would help keep it from the forefront of my mind. I haven't, and wouldn't, ask him to remove them. Nor do I intend to tell him not to use the printers or copiers for personal use, though I could. It is a common practice by most people occassionally. I didn't mean to leave the impression I am treating this man differently...I didn't mean to convey that.

Beck that was great advice.
Just one more thing--make sure you have protected yourself and company from any claims of religious discrimination or of this man making others uncomfortable due to his on the job preaching.
You should know that JWs are encouraged to view their jobs and the schools they attend as their own private "territory" for the "preaching work." Make sure this doesn't somehow endanger you.

I understand what you mean. I do think that transferring him to another department with another manager isn't going to help you develop your role. The problem isn't with him, it's with you - no offense intended. I'm just offering my perspective on things if that's okay.
You seem to be anticipating a problem that may not really eventuate. With this in mind, I don't think you should let his religion or lifestyle choices cloud your judgement of him as a worker. Keep focused on YOUR own role and overlook the negative feelings you have towards this man if you can. I hope this helps.
Regards

Ahhh yes Lisa...you are right...this man may have felt the vibes and he could possibly want to be vindictive...there is always the chance of that happening. Lets hope not.

I edited the initial posting because I did not convey the thought I meant to express and get comment on....not even close, actually. You, quite rightly, misunderstood what I was looking for thoughts on. You seem to have gotten the impression I am vindictive or dislike this man. Neither is the case at all. Part of the idea I was trying to express was that DO I like him very much and do respect him as a person and as a fellow worker.
I would like to drop the thread.
Misunderstandings happen...and I'm not excempt from making any. Apologies if you were offended. I don't think you are vindictive at all...you sound like a really nice person...it could be that I don't word myself properly. I will keep a check on myself in future...so sorry.
