    Hi Folks,

Have any of you had trouble with the power supply in your computers? My daughters computer just blew the P/S. I have fixed two other computers recently and the P/S was bad.The fan on my power supply wouldn't start when the computer was turned on untill I turned it with my knife. It had powered down before because it had over heated. I checked and a new one cost $45.00.

I took it out of the computer and removed the fan. On the back was a little rubber plug which covered the fan shaft. I oiled the shaft and put it back in and it works OK for now. Just don't tuch the capacitor while you are on the inside of the power supply.

    Saved $45. It's a good thing since I didn't have $45 right now.

I have visions of people up and down the country going:

    "bzzzzzt ...t..t.t.turn...p..p.p.power...o.o.o.off...zzzt"

    lol

Cooling is very important in a lot ofmodern PC which run extremely hot and have sensing to power down to protect the chip

It's worth opening the psu up and giving it a good clean out too as they tend to get full of dust which doesn't help the cooling.
You can also replace the fan if you use a little ingenuity. A lot of 'overclocking' web stores sell fans of various sizes and it's pretty easy to find one to replace your dead\dying one.

    Hi Mutz,

I had the fan from my daughter's P/S, which was OK but it was easier to lubricate the old one. It's running better than new now. It also had a lot of dust in the power supply and it is less than a year old. I think I will install a case fan, they are less than $5 from Tiger Direct.
