Just an FYI sort of thing. Someone at work, her aunt and uncle in their 60s, won the $36 million dollar lottery in California a couple of weeks ago! Just an amazing thing to know someone who knows someone who won!

To date, I am still the only person I know who actually won the Readers Digest Sweepstakes, back in 1984.
I came home from work and found the blue IBM envelope on the table with rest of the mail. Upon picking it up and looking at it, I thought, "Uh uh, I already paid this." I opened it and was surprised to see the words, "Congratulations, here are your sweepstakes winnings." My elation was shortlived, though, when I saw it amounted to a whole $10.00.
But, the fun I had with that check was worth it all. My then boss recommended that I not seek early retirement on it

That's a neat story, Lew. It was your lucky day! Too bad it was just a teensy bit o'luck

Still waiting for two things.........
1. My check from Publishers Clearing House via Ed McMahon.
2. Watchtower article on the Catholic Church pedophile problem.

When I was a senior in high school, a friend's father won the lottery. He was a retired maintainance worker for GE. One of the few people who actually deserved it.
He bought the house next-door to my parents right after he won, too.
A really cool guy. He's lost all of his friends (due to them borrowing/not repaying) except for his best friend, a black guy, who has never asked him for one penny.
When my parent's postman, a lay minister, found out, he told him that "he could save his soul for a $10,000 donation."
LOL.

Lisa,
I guess the only thing that he really wanted to 'lay' was his hands on that money!

I just purchased a book about "how to win sweepstakes, lotteries, etc." and have been entering some on the net. I may buy my 1st lottery ticket this week. It's kinda fun.
I think it would be best to keep it as quiet as possible for a while if one were to win. That might help prevent LDH's friend's problem of losing all his friends.

Pat,
You have no choice. Read your lottery ticket again, LOL. You have only 365 days to claim the prize in most cases, and by merely purchasing the ticket you have agreed to abide by their terms, which is that you can appear in ads promoting it. blah blah blah.
Also, they hold news conferences.
The silent thing doesn't work.

Hi Lisa,
Oh well, I guess I'd have to be out in the open about it. But I think I'd put it in a safety deposit box for a while whilst considering and consulting with professionals on how best to handle it. Dream on, Patio!
