Father's Day got its start in unlikely spot.. Commentary Robert Rector

Moms have been worshipped since time immemorial. Dad not so much.

To hear tell, the first Father's Day was held in Spokane, Wash., in 1910.

The suggestion of a Father's Day was often met with laughter, but when

the trade groups got wind of a Father's day, hell yes. Ties, tobacco pipes

and other traditional presents for fathers, great idea. Many saw it as the first step

in filling the calendar with mindless promotions. Mother days means flowers and

champagne brunches. Or a dinner at a place where the menus don't have prices.

Father's Day is a barbecue slaved over by the honoree. As one small boy once

observed, "It's just like Mother's day only you don't spend so much".

A fact, more phone calls are made on Mother's Day than during Father's Day, but

the percentage of collect calls on Father's Day is much higher.

Best definition of a Dad? "A father carries pictures where his money used to be".

    No respect.

The first Mother's Day was held in 1908.

In our house Mom and Dad were equal: neither of them received a card for Mother's day or Father's day. Mom, a JW, thought it good, Dad had to put up with it. Being a child in a "divided household" was hard, at times unbearable.

My Dad never understood and it is just today that I'm coming to understand myself. Today, I understand that it was just a day for Dads and nothing more. It was not wrong. But it's too late to tell my Dad this. Sorry Dad, I did not mean to hurt you though I know I did.

    Your son, Frank.

JakeM2012: that would be a nice Father's day gift.

    ctrwtf:Are you a JW??

OrphanCrow: Mothers don't need a special day, every day is special for them.

Hold Me: A very sad story.

I was thinking JW should adopt this holiday, why because it fitting for the borg.

Think about it, Dad you are so wonderful for raising me in this organization. They

praise the men in the organization any way, why not make it scripturally. It's not

    paganism.

Sibling Day, conceived by Claudia Evart to honor the memory of her brother

and sister, both whom had died at early age. Since 1998 39 states recognize

    Siblings Day.

Who here have celebrated Sibling Day?
