Gopher:
You forgot the WTS Legal Department's "Religious right to kill minor children by with holding blood transfusions" fund.

I was born into jw's lost faith at 45 yrs old df'd at 55 yrs old. In all that time I did not see any charitable efforts by the wbts or the congregation. Only charity I saw was individuals acting on their own or getting a couple of families to help out.
I asked about this once and I was told and I think I also saw this in a wt magazine once.
WE spend our time and finance on showing people the way to eternal life. Or something to that effect.

Charity for a dub means helping out other dubs (yes, they do that individually) and helping free and independent spirits becoming dubs.

Perhaps they mean that all congs (at least in UK ) ARE charities set up with the Charity Commission . One of the last things I did as secretary was to sort out the papers and obtain official recognition of our charitable status.
The official purpose of the charity was something like "For the dissemination of Bible truth and education"
Believe me, the only charitable giving they recommend is to themselves and the Worldwide Work Fund ... In fact there is a deep distrust of "Worldly charitys " and most dubs that I know recount stories that most of the money given to worldly causes is creamed off in admin costs. Seems a good excuse not to donate!

Occasionally when there is a disaster of some sort, the Society coordinates efforts to send some relief to the JW's in the area. On rare occasions, if there is too much for the JW's, they will even help out some "worldly" people. Whenever they do anything along these lines, they make sure to "blow a trumpet" ahead of themselves by doing a big write-up about it in the Watchtower or Awake.
