Record producer Gus Dudgeon and his wife Sheila died in a car accident on July 21.
Gus was the producer on Elton John's highly successful 1970s albums, including a run of seven consecutive U.S. number one albums. He also produced some of John's 1980s work, including the album Live In Australia, with the 88-piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Gus also worked with the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, XTC, and Marriane Faithful, among others.
Gus's work with Elton John was marked by a clean, wide-open sound that I personally found to be very involving. He has recently completed work on remasters of John's classic albums. He will surely be missed.
