Hi everyone,
This does not really have to do specifically with the JWs, but is an experience of a civil right violation. When are big religion and big business going to learn that these violation hurt people.
Former Target Employee Files Civil Rights Claim
John B. Brown, II, the current President of a human services organization called Approaches To Education, Inc. had his employment involuntarily terminated on Sunday, May 19, 2002 for his complaints of harassment against another employee. For the past year and a half to two years Mr. Brown has complained about Wesley Beard, a Target Assets Protection Specialist (undercover security), for personal and religious harassment.
According to Mr. Brown, Mr. Beard, who is considered a level three-team leader (supervisor), has done such things as ask Mr. Brown to clock out for him, thus falsifying time cards, a form of theft, inform Mr. Brown that he should go to church repeatedly, and has given Mr. Brown several reprimands for bringing books on yoga, meditation, Buddhism, and Charles Darwins Origin of the Species to work for reading on his personal break time. Mr. Beard also allegedly would display unprofessional behavior publicly by yelling at Mr. Brown when he made a mistake.
Mr. Brown has attempted to resolve these issues personally. He had no intention of terminating employment but feels he has no other recourse. He states: I have complained about Wes three times already, and one of those times I received a retaliatory response from Wes. I finally turned in my two-week notice as a result. My last day of work would have been June 1, 2002. I was called in about 15 minutes before I left work on May 19, 2002, given my last two weeks pay, and terminated. I was told that the decision had already been made.
According to reports from other states, Target had been under investigation, at times resulting in court proceedings due to discriminatory practices. Furthermore, Target Assets Protection has been indicted of committing crimes.
