Children chippin

    Good idea or not?

    Microchip children, for safety's sake
If our pets can be microchipped in case they are lost or stolen, why can't children?# I am not talking about a mandatory law for all children. I think it should be made available to the parents who want it.# This way maybe some of the low-life garbage who steal our children would be intimidated.# They would never know which child might be microchipped.
I know this would not stop a determined predator, but it might help.# If I had young children and had this option, I would jump on it.# I would do anything in the world to protect them, even if it meant a little discomfort for them to have this done.# We have to do something to protect these innocent children.

    It's not a chip, but: http://www.wherifywireless.com/prod_watches.htm

I wouldn't lock it on my kiddo though, if these things become common knowledge... the implications of what some evil f*** might do to get it off of her are too frightening.

Where exactly would you put it?

And how much damage would be done by a monster trying to find it?

I'm assuming what Crystal is talking about is the same type of Implantable microchip used for identification of livestock. They're injected under the skin, and are tiny enough to be next to impossible to find (unless of course you have a reader). They have been known to migrate around in the body sometimes, making them pretty tough, sometimes impossible to find.I'm sure some higher degree of technology would be practical if used for human id. purposes, but like Six,i'd be terrified of someone trying to remove it.

Lets back up a moment and assume said monster has no clue such a thing has been implanted on the child.I think its a very good idea, at least while they are underage. I think also if a device could be implanted the same way that could be activated and tracked by satellite if a child were abducted. BTW, another tool in keeping children safe, from Texas no less, the Amber Alert, helped save those 2 cali girls from being murdered. The bastard was found and promtly shot to death. Good riddance!

I agree with Valis, I think it is a good idea.

I personally know of a family , used to be JW's, and their daughter has been missing for going on 2 yrs now, all they found was her car.

The pain, saddness and lose of their daughter has destroyed their lives. The mother told me she is sure that the daughter is dead, she wouldnt leave without a trace and leave her two small children. I agree , because I know the girl and was around her the time this happened.

I know she was an adult , but stilll her parents have no closure because there is no body to be found. If it were me , god forbid, I would want to find my child no matter what terrible outcome it might be.

Maybe it would make someone who would kidnap a child think twice , since they may get caught so much sooner. I have watched shows that even if a kidnapper intends to kill the child, he may keep them alive for awhile. That would be where the tracking device could save the childs life.

a note about my earlier comment: the device being sold at the URL I shared, is a wristwatch style device. I would not want to use it's locking feature on my child. I would rather just take a chance that the criminal did not know about the tracking device and would allow her to keep wearing it.

I don't see much danger in an implanted device, unless it was obvious.

Valis, it was gratifying to see the Amber plan put to such successful use in CA. It seems as if they implimented it with even more vigor than we have here.

Six,I looked at the links you posted before I posted, knew what you were talking about. The implanted device would not be obvious,if it were like those I'm familiar with, but if it became commonplace,or if their was any reason for the abductor to suspect it,it could become a danger. The only implantable devices I have found any info on are for ID purpopses only - readable only at a very close range.Anything that sends a tracking signal would have to be external(thus rather obvious),at this point in time.If an implantable tracking device were available,I'd be very interested, too.
