  Husband
  IN SILENCE he abused me,

  IN SILENCE that is all he demanded, for himself to be free.
  
  Religion
  IN SILENCE they abused me,
  IN SILENCE they warned me not to slander him,
  IN SILENCE that is all they demanded, for themselves to be clean.
  
  Me
  IN SILENCE I have lived,
  IN SILENCE to protect everybody else,
  IN SILENCE I stayed a slave with no one protecting me.
  
  NOW
  IN SILENCE no longer,
  IN SILENCE to keep their secret no more,
  IN SILENCE so now I protect myself, instead of always them.

  That is an excellent poem!

  Silence is maintained at all costs in the congregations.
  In our hall when individual threats to silence us seemed to be failing, the BOE gave a talk from the platform on Forgiveness. It was designed to touch your conscience and guarantee your self enforced silence.
  In the talk: a sister willingly attended a Book study conducted by the man who had murdered her husband. Best I could figure out: Elder killed hubby before he became a witness and the town was Urban Legend.
  Whatever! I really dont care what a couple of whacked out consenting adults do anyway but I sure wouldnt recommend it for a four year old.
  No matter how ridiculous: Forgiveness is often used to enforce silence

  Nanoprobe I truly believe that the only way to solve about a problem is to talk about it in the open. That is probably why the early Christians had their judicial hearings in the public sqyuare - no opportunity for secrets to get out of hand - no opportunity for hurtful gossip (everyone knows the truth) and certainly no opportunity for abuse to thrive the way it does in the org with all its secrets.

  One more thing - this whole issue of forgiveness that is pushed on people is just so much crap. Jesus gave the example of forgiveness - the person in the wrong must confess AND stop doing it. Forgiveness is given in return for honest repentance and NEVER to hide the wrong-doing
