About 4 years ago it became imposible for the non JW to subscripe to the magizines, without contact with a publisher. You now have to have them brought to you.
It seems that the orangization is becoming more and more paranoid. People are now being disfellowship for reading certain books.
They fight in the Supreme Court for freedoms they denigh their members. How hipocritiacal can you get..

Hi Joseph,
Welcome to the board and that's a very astute observation you make. It is increasingly difficult for folks to get. I was thinking of asking some relatives (if I wanted them), but they may even become suspicious. Plus, I would feel too deceitful.

Well, I was in my last location (suburb of Dallas) for a year and never had a visit. Not even a back issue or invitation stuck in the door. Now I've been here for two months (different suburb of Dallas), and never a visit. Guess I won't be getting that life-saving information in time, since the end is so close...
Dang, huh.

The following reasons are why the Watchtower has discontinued mail delivery
of its magazines:
1) To save postage costs,
2) To keep the magazines out of "apostate" hands,
3) To require direct contact with those who want the magazines.
The purpose of the magazine is to provide information to the existing members,
and to encourage new membership.
These purposes of the Watchtower are NOT served by mailing magazines to people who
are not taking steps to become a member of the congregation.
Both current witnesses and those who are interested in becoming a witness can get
the magazines at the Kingdom Hall. The Watchtower's view is that no one else needs
the magazines.
So after more than 100 years of sending their magazines to people through the mail,
they have decided it is not necessary, and a "simplification" to discontinue the
practice.

Unless you get in contact with your friendly local dub who is quite happy to mail copies out for the cost of postage without pestering you, cos he really wouldn't want to be responsible for another life lost to the Witchtower

I think it was a smart business decision on their part. After all, can you remember all those "gift" subscriptions we gave to our non-believing relatives .... which probably ended up as bird cage lining.
I always wondered why they mailed me my rags when I could easily pick them up from the hall. Seems some of us were just too far ahead of the organization.

That's nothing short of bird abuse.

If they are doing that, (making the literature available only "within") then they will probably have to change the name of the magazine "AWAKE" to "ASLEEP".
