Its just a thought I had,why do we debate over what the WT publications say today when we know all to well that in a year or two they will say something different.

And put it down to new light .

Everything Charles Taze Russell said by word of mouth and in print , the so called , first president of the International Bible Students Association (William H. Conley was actually the first president ), later to be named the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society in his lifetime is discarded .

Something like 40 years preaching and teaching throughout the earth , being the chief cornerstone of the foundation of the Jehovah`s Witness religion / I.B.S.A..

Nothing he said or preached or wrote about is accepted today by the Jehovah`s Witness religion as being relevant.

Do they say he was wrong ? no... Do they say he was a false prophet ? no ,..

Then what do they say about C.T.Russell , well they do cherry pick some comments and take them out of context ,like he foretold 40 years beforehand about world war one. Did he ? of course not .

Gods Kingdom would be set up and all nations on earth would be destroyed in that year .

And that`s not what you would hear today if you listened to a J.W.who distorts the truth.

They re-write their history to pull the wool over the eyes of newer members., and the older ones just accept it.

    Very pathetic.

The JW's have not totally discarded everything C T Russell taught, stop exaggerating. In fact, they have retained most of the core doctrines Russell originally first taught that distinguished them from Christendom.

Strange fact - the International Bible Students Association (IBSA) was dissolved in the 1930's by J.F. Rutherford, and renamed "Jehovah's Witnesses", and yet, the IBSA is alive and well, existing as a tax-free charity in Mill Hill, north London - sharing facilities, money, etc. with the Britain Branch of Jehovah's Witnesses!

The rumours of their death have been greatly exaggerated!

we debate them to expose the follies, of the old, and better yet, the new light. We debate them to get kudos for having seen a stinker, that both the wt proofreaders and members here missed. We debate them to expose what house of cards wt/ bible doctrines are, expose them to lurkers, prodding them to join and say:" I can do that too-/better than that. ,

It's because of our change in status: If we were still diehard JDubs, we would not debate or question anything about doctrine. It would not be allowed.

We no longer feel compelled to act like mushrooms.

The Watchtower .scrambles. many brains and consciences. It needs exposure. Their past lies and continuing lies need exposure and this sometimes needs references. Many in their process of the unraveling appreciate those who know the double talk and half truths to help them identify these issues. Also, hearing other individuals with this process is helpful. For some of us, it took years, especially when there is the emotional attachment with family still there under WT control.

With the internet and so many sites, many can process this more quickly and others not JWs, can hear the whole story before any WT lies sink in.

I sometimes wonder why we bother, but then I think back to how helpful it was to me, when I first left, to have a breakdown of all that was wrong with current WT doctrine at the time, much of which has now changed of course.

By myself I had come to realise that the 1914 teaching was rubbish, but did not realise that every other unique JW doctrine was equally as faulty, and unsupported by Scripture.

The good Posters of JWD (now JWN) laid it all out for me, and helped me on the way to freedom.

I thank them all, some still on here, from the bottom of my heart for all the effort they put in, and still do.

    Good point, Phizzy.

Perhaps some post as a way to show how totally fallible the wts and gb are and how they could never, ever actually be a mouthpiece for god (were god to exist) because they never seem to make sense.

They are the most unreliable teachers of "scripture" the world has seen.

I like to have the freedom to debate them. This is one of the most important freedoms we get once we realize they are just people. Nothing more.

The witnesses who are in, don't have this basic liberty do they?

Because JWism is a revolving door and its constantly spitting people out on to the street.

A lot of those confused and hurting people end up here.

If we are current and relevant we can reach them with words based on what they understand at the time.
