Flood in Europe

  I don't know if you are aware of the flood that is currently devastating big parts of Europe. Tschech Republic, Austria and the east of Germany are hit hard by the water. The record levels of more than a century have been exceeded - and it has not yet ended. 100'000 of people have to flee the water.

  In Germany, among the many helpers are also more than 1'000 JW (mostly from the comitees for building KH) are helping to fight the flood. Among the 10 people who died while trying to rescue people is also a JW Elder. I heard of two KH that have been damaged.

  Thanks for the update. I am sorry to hear of the losses of life. Did you know the elder who died?

  It is heartening to know that JWs pitched in with civic workers and other citizens to try to stem the tide of destruction that the flooding is causing. I hope not a single other person dies from this natural disaster.

  No, I didn't know the elder who is from east Germany. My region will be hit next week but I am personally am not at risk.

  But everybody in Germany is at least emotionally touched by this national (and European) catastrophe.

  The flooding was on the news here in the U.S. In addition to the deaths, they said many cultural and historical buildings are also at risk. I hope the JW's are really helping and not preaching. This would be a good opportunity for them to say the flooding is the start of Armageddon. On Sept 11th the JW's were at ground zero handing out tracts and was preaching rather than food and water. They were eventually kicked out.

  Too bad that the only thing Brooklyn sees in all this is an opportunity to put a self-congratulatory article in an upcoming mag.

  Well, I rather think that the JW are searching for their place in the community since the big A is still not coming.

  In the town of Bitterfeld, the GDR regime ran a chemical plant and did not give a damn about the environment. Now the water threatens to reach the place which could result in a major environmental catastrophe.

  Hi German JW, What's the news out of Dresden? I've heard the opera house and museum are gone. :( What a tragedy. I am so sorry for the families of your countrymen who've lost their lives in the flood. I know it's easy for me to say, but don't be discouraged. Having such destruction in the region so soon after reunification is devastating. I haven't visited your country and my friends there for several years but remembering those I met there-they won't quit until things are back in order. Let's hope the waters don't reach Bitterfield. :( Take care. Seven
