Birol, an Ohio consultant, the dominant feeling around Sept. 11 is FUD---fear, uncertainty and doubt.....Now I don't want to sound like an old fuddy-duddy, but do you think this statement is true? I know many New Yorkers that say, "What can you do? Life just has to go on." Of course, maybe most New York City dwellers have always espoused this attitude.

I work in the Empire State Building in New York City.
Attendance at work is optional on the 11th of September because so many of us are just plain afraid to commute on that day. Rumors are rampant. Some say that the subways are targeted, some say our building or the Chrysler Building is next.
I'm not taking chances. I'm staying home.

I would venture to say on the 11th, Law Enforcement's nerves will be so frazzled, we'll have a few more Abner Louima's on our hand. (Wasn't that the guy police shot 41 times when he reached for his wallet?)

BTW, I saw on Peter Jennings ABC World News tonight that SEVEN small aircraft have been stolen over a period of months or so, and still no new laws or security changes have been made at the small airports which are usually closed at night. One pilot said it is a piece of cake to steal these smaller planes in the night when nobody is around, just break the door latch, hotwire the engine, and off you go into the stars of night. He said the biggest problem is needing to know how to fly a plane in the first place. And then the newscaster stated that these were exactly the kinds of planes the terrorists were trained in the flying schools.
They said usually these planes are stolen and taken to Mexico and stripped for parts, but since 9/11, everybody also knows these planes could also be used as mini-bombs (explosives) and/or chemicals/toxins, and be flown in to specific smaller targets where people gather, etc.
Oh well, call me the Prophet of Doom, eh? Sorry about that!
