    Hello all.....

It's been a really long time since I have posted.....like 4 or 5 months at least. I was banned from it at work by my former boss, but he's gone now, and my new one doesn't care. Anyways.....I just got engaged last week. We've set the tenative date for May 3rd of 2003, which leaves me 8 months to plan. I am 4 months behind! And we don't have any money saved. So does anyone have any suggestions on how we could have a nice wedding on a tight budget without going to the courthouse or eloping in Vegas? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Regards,

The park is a great idea. If the weather doesn't cooperate a small hall can be rented for a small price usually. You can also make the food potluck style. Everyone worth inviting loves to help anyway.

There are so many ways to cut costs (talking to the Queen of Thrift here!)

Dresses........watch post prom when dresses go on clearance. You can pick up some extremely nice dresses suitable for a wedding (bridesmaids and bride).......OR, if you don' t mind second hand stores, I have seen GORGEOUS elegant dresses for a fraction of the cost.

Flowers......when I got married I called around to the florists for quotes on silk flowers. They were a bit spendy. I called the local craft shop (Michaels Crafts), set up an appointment and walked thru the store w/the floral designer as she 'threw' a bouqet together to give me a hint of what colors go well together. I picked out what kind of flowers I liked, colors that I liked and two weeks later I showed up and was pleasantly suprised at what she had done! That huge bouqet, a boutinere, and a toss bouquet cost me LESS THAN $50! This bouquet was just as, if not more, gorgeous than the one that I paid a fortune for at my first wedding.

Cake..........look for someone who does it out of their home (w/a good reputation) instead of going to a bakery. Find a "mom and pop" place that will do it so much less expensive.

My first wedding reception was held at a dance hall. We had a pot luck and it was wonderful! Great thing about pot lucks is that everyone makes their bestus dish!

Oh, good luck! Too bad you don't live closer........I would love to help you out!

Do you have a favorite scenic spot? Like on top of a hillside w/ a great view, by a waterfall? Although, depending on where in the world you live May weather might not allow you to have an outside wedding.

Morning and Afternoon weddings are cheaper, coffee is much cheaper then beer.
