Open letter to Dr. Laura Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality. Recently, she said that as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 & cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US resident, but the letter could as well have been to the Governing Body of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

    Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, & I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws & how to follow them.

    1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

    2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day & age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

    3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

    4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male & female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

    5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

    6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it's a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

    7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some room for negotiation here?

    8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die?

    9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

    10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse & blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev.24:10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do w/people who sleep with their in-laws (Lev. 20:14)?

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.
Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal & unchanging.

Your devoted disciple & adoring fan,

    Richard Wilbur

I only wonder if Dr. Laura believes her own hype.

Of course, the same letter could be addressed to the Governing Body.

My rhetorical question remains unchanged: I wonder if the Governing Body believes its own hype.

She had her own show for a while. didn't last long. It was a crappy show.

I wonder if she ever responded to that letter?

Dr. Laura's TV show didn't last because she didn't do well on TV. She came off as hyper and not sure of herself. She doesn't really have a face for TV anyway. Plus the gays got mad at what she said about them. Pretty much doomed the TV show. However, she has a faithful radio audience which keeps her in business. I listen to her every now and then. I even called her once about what I should do about the woman I found on the Internet who might be grandfather's daughter from an affair, and she told me "hit the delete key." Well I didn't take her advice and we did DNA testing and she turned out to INDEED be my grandfather's daughter from an affair. I enjoy listening to all the people call up and getting the business from her. It's a good laugh during the day at work.

Thanks for the laughs!!! I have made a copy of it and will distribute it throughout my office and to all my friends. Sometimes we need a reminder that living according to Mosaic law is not what life is all about, and that to observe one law and not all of them makes as much sense as "tits on a boar hog" (as my mama used to say!)

I listen to Dr. Laura for a few years before she became an observant Jew. I like her stance on putting the welfare and needs of children FIRST. I'm amazed and outraged how so many parents are willing to completely destroy the lives of their children over their own SELFISH wants.

When I first stared listening to her she was much more openminded about Gays. Now, if anything even remotely goes against her religious teachings, IT'S WRONG. I remember one particular call, about 6 or 7 years ago, when I was driving in the car. A woman about 30 that had been dating a man for about 6 months. At that time, Dr. Laura held the view that couples should wait 18 months before having sex. The reasoning was that it is much more difficult to be objective about another person when there is sexual intimacy. Well, the woman was really having a hard time with this. I think she just wanted to get permission to start having sex with this guy. Well, after Dr. Laura gave her "opinion" against having sex this early in the relationship, she advises the woman to get a vibrator to ease her tension.

The Dr. Laura of today would never give that advice. First off, she would not endorse masturbation (very bad) and there's the no sex until marriage. PERIOD.

Now, her beliefs are mainly influenced by her religion. That is the main reason I don't listen her like I used to. I still listen on occasion and do agree on a number of things with her.

The list provided here. I have seen that many times before. That is why the Bible is merely a historical document to me.

Same here Andee, I used to enjoy her show years ago. A few years ago Dr. Laura's former boyfriend posted nude pics of her on the internet. It was quite a scandal...hehehe.

The radio personality Tom Lykis (sp?) really tears into her from time to time on his show, it's hysterical.
