    Chevys.

Ain't that the truth. Looking back over the years,I just can't even fathom how much of my life was wasted sitting at those damn meetings and doing door to door sales.

By the way, my daughter added another impromptu activity--tonight from 6:30-7:30, teenagers activity night at the local church. It's a HUGE church and they have a ton of stuff for kids. One of her class mates invited her.

LOL, she told me, "Just because I like Eminem and don't attend church, I won't let anyone tell me I'm not "Christian" or that they are better than me." LOL.

Lisa, great thread. You must be so glad to be 'out' and free of all the nonsense we had to put up with ourselves as kids in the 'troof'...reading threads like this reminds me of how lucky our kids are.

Your daughter's schedule is much like my 11 yr old's...like you I encourage my kids to indulge in wholesome activities (ie. NOT field service) and get the best out of their youth, and enjoy it.

I have 3 kids, so routine is essential, otherwise chaos makes me dizzy LOL. My days are long but its all worthwhile...twice a week I pick number one son up from Rugby training on my way home from work, we usually get home at 7pm only to cook dinner and clean up before bedtime. Once a week I pick number two daughter up from Gymnastics, another late night. And twice a week I pick up number one daughter from work at 1am and again at 8pm.

Weekends are usually 'kid' orientated...with sports (basketball and rugby) games to attend, sometimes 4 smelly boys are squashed into my car wanting a lift there and back LOL...by Sunday I am ready for a rest, but hey, gotta get the clothes ironed and uniforms ready for school and work for the upcoming week.

How old is 8th grade? Over here 11-12 yr olds are in Grade 6.

    Beck,

She just turned 12. And yes, over here, most 11-12 y/o are in 6th grade. She's, ummmmmm, advanced.

The nicest part? I don't push her. This is all stuff SHE wants to do.

Although we did have it out today. This kid can draw like nobody's business! My husband and I have been trying to encourage her to take art classes, told her we'd pay for whatever she wanted to take. She has been resisting. If you could see her talent, you'd know why it was killing us. Anyhow, I said enough is enough, and I took her to art class last week. As luck would have it, , the other 12 year olds were doing stupid shit like gluing sticks together, ha ha ha. She was indignant! and did not want to stay, and I had to force her.

The teacher, a young lady around 25, told me, "Don't worry, I'll pull her to the side and work with her privately." I went back to get her an hour later and the teacher came running up to me and said, "SHE HAS TO COME BACK. I have never seen such a natural talent." Apparently, she told her to draw her hand (my kid had brought her sketch book.) She wanted to get a sense of her talent level. When she went to check on her about 20 minutes later, my kid had done an UNBELIEVABLE rendering of her own hand. (VERY difficult; anatomy is very hard to draw).

The bottom line, the teacher wants her privately (Shit, $40/hour). She told my daughter how her love of drawing paid for her college education and opened up a ton of doors. The Kid is pretty excited. I'm glad I put my foot down.

Oh, and she didn't get her drawing ability from me. I can't draw flies.

By the way, I love the way you call them Kid 1, and so on. It reminds me of The Cat in the Hat "Thing 1 and Thing 2."

It sounds like they keep you hopping. Let's exchange email pics. I've got some on the digital camera I will upload over the weekend.

    Love,

Wow, you've got a talented di Vinci in the making LOL. I think its good that you are trying to nurture her talents...$40 an hour could make a big difference later on...who knows. More importantly she will remember the sacrifices you and hubby have made so that she could take advantage of some wonderful opportunities.

I'm not surprised to learn that she is advanced...you come across as a brainy chick too LOL. I wonder if there is a relationship here...and tell me if my thinking is quite up the creek on this one. But when I was a kid, I had friends who went to pony club, they won trophies for all sorts of horsie events and they had the best parents who were so supportive. Additionally, they were also the best athletes, fastest runners in the school or the best player on the basket ball team etc. On top of that, they were also known as the academics of the school...as they were especially smart. In other words, they were high achievers. In my childlike mind, I used to envy them...they had parents who 'indulged' in them..not money and material things, but time and love. Your daughter sounds like she is one of those kids, and I put that down to the loving support in the home.

As for my kids, they have 'some' talents ...although I'm still waiting for it LOL. Please check your email for their website

    It's already making a Big Difference,Beck.

I was planning on going shopping for new jeans/shoes this month. I have three formal (black tie) occasions (that I know of) already for the upcoming holiday season. This will require at least two new formal gowns. I've about rotated my current supply all I can stand, LOL.

    $40/hour x 5 hours/month + $25/month/art supplies = Lisa's clothing allowance

I'm dressed like a bum but my kid's got talent! Class

I have three formal (black tie) occasions

Geez, Lisa, you sound posh LOL.

Okay, here's a suggestion, get out the sewing machine and 'improvise' hehehe...says Beck who is a dressmaker and who shops at goodwill LOL.

The things we do without, so our kids can 'have it all'.....and guess what Lisa, their 'expense' account gets higher and higher as they get older. My son plays sports and its important to wear the most popular brands *rolls eyes*. Did you know Nike is 'out' now?? I didn't....it wasn't until we were shopping for good shoes that he informed me that Nike is so yesterday, he wants Osiris. Hmmm...never heard of that brand I say, but I'm secretly pleased as it sounds cheap (cos I'm a cheapskate LOL). So we venture down to the mall, I can't find Osiris brands in any of the shoe stores....that's because they are a skating brand and you have to go into a surf shop ($$$$$$$) to get them. I'm starting to perspire, so we venture into the surf shop and finally track down 'Osiris' shoes....my eyes almost fell outta their sockets. $245 for one pair of shoes?? You gotta be kidding me I say....what's wrong with Nike for $125?

Needless to say, he got the shoes, as he sweet talked my mother into buying them for him, I was just dead set against the price. Two months later, they are falling apart already!! So they are NOT the best brand, just the coolest in today's demanding society *rolls eyes bigtime*

    Kids!!

LOL @ Beck, doesn't know what Osiris skate shoes are....

http://www.ccs.com request a catalog for your kid, he will think you are Tha Shiz-nit, LOL. ( This is rap talk for "the shit")

The Kid wanted Helix shoes ($90), so I agreed to pay half and she pays half out of her allowance. But I'm not buying it all at once. I'm putting aside $10/month and she has to do the same. That way at least she learns how to pay cash and not use credit. It will take 5 months for her to have enough. Screw this impulse buying crap.

By the way, I have seen Osiris on Ebay....

Nike has been out for years.. Even I wear Adidas only.

We went to the mall today (1st time in three years) The Kid wanted a sweatshirt. It cost $60 I said HELL NO. ARE YOU ON CRACK.... LOL

Because it had Invader Zim/Sponge Bob. So I let her buy three iron-ons of Invader Zim ($4 x 3) then we went to Factory 2-u (LOL even the name sounds cheap) and bought a plain blue sweatshirt $9. I ironed them on for her. She got a "$60" sweat shirt for $20. And no one else will have one.

I am NOT big on logo clothing.

As for the black tie thing, I don't have a choice. I'll email ya more on that.
