It just occured to me...lets say it takes the society 1 million dollars to print the awake...twice as much for the watchtower ...on top of which they have new bibles 500k brochures another two million or so...pamplet 200k ...new books at coventions 2 million again (this is just estimating not actuality..i don't know the real numbers) ...insight books...another 200k ...revelation books ...so forth so forth..lets say their total number of sales in one year ALONE is 7 million dollars... not to mention the people living in bethal and going on missionary trips all over the world ...plane tickets... Co's expenses...Do's Expeses...new cars given to the CO's and District overseer's. Feeding everyone at bethal...(not just in brooklyn but ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL OVER the world) NY has 3 places ...that's just one country...not to mention the other 266 countries that repeat all these things. Did it ever occur to anyone that they might have all these ASSEMBLIES and COVENTIONS sole reason NOT because they wanted to "feed" the sheep..but to MAKE MONEY from donations so they can sustain their life style of never really having to work? ~FS

Yes, it did occur to me.

Also, Assemblies are just like "Sales Conventions" familiar to many industries. They provide a chance to:

    • bond with co-salespeople
    • learn abou the latest and greatest product to be released by the corporation
    • refresh/renew tried and true tips&tricks

There are other points to annual sales meetings I can't think of right now, but you get the picture!

to save printing costs...why doesn't the WT put the Awake! and Watchtower magazines up on their website? Especially now with the no subscription policy, people could read the articles without having to have them hand delivered to their doors. --VM44

    Hi FS

Another thing that never occured to me until the last district convention I went to, was how they parade all the people who are in charge of the "contribution boxes" around the stadium while we all stood there singing a song. All but saying "Don't forget to give now"

VM44, now that would make sense so you can bet the WTS will never do it! Actually, it won't happen since making it 'free' on the website will further reduce contribution $$ since people would be less likely to 'pay' for web based stuff. And maybe a bigger reason is it removes a huge layer of control they have on Joe Publisher who must be at meetings to get his mags. And is at the mercy of the mag person who may or may not 'lose' his books/mags depending on how 'good' Joe Publisher is.

Dis, yes it is pretty blatent their cries for $$. Every convention had the standard Sun AM 'announcements' where they would read the 'financials' and whine about how they were SO short and couldn't pay the bills. And you couldn't walk w/out tripping over a contribution box, which seemed to magically multiply in number by 4 on Sunday night as you left. I've heard stories (don't know if they're true or not) that some JW built assembly halls actually have ATMs in them!

Conventions may be one of their last real big $$ makers.

Oh, and on that note the side effect is that it is truely sad to see my JW family (and others) scrimp and save to barely make it to one of the sales meetings, taking vacation time, end up spending big bucks, for what? So they can sit zombie style for 8 hours listening to the same crap they get 3 times a week.

For the same $$ they could be sitting on a beach somewhere actually enjoying themselves.

They should baptize people on line, you can go over the questions on the web and submit it to 3 elders. Then you recieve an email to get e-dunked and then you can be an e-publisher. You can go through chat groups preaching the "not so good news of the kingdom"

truthseeker1......That is Great!! Of course they just exposed the evils of email so I doubt they'll implement your terrific ideas. On similar note...in the New York Times edition that had the Silent Lambs article, there was also a piece on e-giving to churches. I like the idea of e-dunking the best though. Of course it would still be mandatory to sit at your computor wearing a cheap, solid white T-shirt while being e-dunked. Thanks for the laugh.
