Dishonourable to NOT attack terrorism - NYFD

My opinion on America's war on terrorism is changing these past few days or so, so much so, that now I would see it as negating our responsibilities if we did not act against terrorism at it's root.

Considering the 9/11 attacks just for now. Here we have, within a very small comparatively speaking, airliner, - with completely opposing polarities of thought dimension on board, (love and hate). On the one hand, we have a madman at the helm, hell bent on causing as much carnage and hate and destruction as is humanly possible. On board also are innocent men, women and children going about their lives, their business in a free democratic country. The hijacker is focussed upon nothing else, but causing as much damage as possible, on a wanton scale of destruction. As the planes neared the twin towers they might have had second thoughts, and swerved away to avoid their suicidal mission, but no, they remained fixed in their objective, despite the terror and peril of those on board, seeing NY sweep swiftly below them.

The Firefighters of NYFD without reservation for their own safety, raced from all over the city not knowing what to expect, amid expressions of emotional disbelief on the part of the residents and visitors there. From fearless love and compassion they put their lives at risk, to save the lives of people they had never met in their entire lives. Their's was a spirit of courageousness, in complete opposition to the hatred of their countries attackers.

Watching the film, documentary last night made by the Naudet brothers about Ladder1, and shown in the States last March 10, (CBS), watched here by millions last night on BBC1, really shook the roots of my reasoning upon the matter of how best to approach this extremely complex issue. Put quite simply, for much of the showing of this footage, I was in tears, especially at the shocking scenes of hearing bodies thumping into the ground, absolutely awful.

OK then, what do we have? We have one country that supports and encourages the freedom of rights for people, and we have other regimes which thrive on causing hatred and inspire nothing but violence. Love and hate living right next door to one another. Struck I was by the enormity of the utter devastation and wreaked carnage dictated upon that city that day. Now, which system would I rather have in place? That was the question presented to my mind.

Therefore, I state a change of opinion on my behalf. Whilst yet I believe anywhere the lives of innocent individuals should be protected, those individuals and terrorist groups which purport violence and hatred for fellow human beings, must be eliminated beyond repair, if not killed outright, they must be brought to justice and if proven guilty of crimes against humanity, thrown into prison for an indefinite period. To do otherwise would be dangerous thinking, indeed an act of dishonourableness if we did not protect the weak and innocent around the globe, those ones without representation, without voice, in support of freedom of rights.

May I then, after seeing such heart rending footage put my full support behind the UK - USA's efforts to stamp out this evil.

Please, take care all of you, especially perhaps those ones on the board I may have upset in times gone by. JR, that cranky old bastard Megadude, LDH, Francois and not a few others. You live in one hell of a great country, aye, you make many mistakes often, but that is not the point, all of you, every single last one of you are more valuable than perhaps you'll ever know, take ruddy good care of yourselves.

To the Firefighters of NYFD, I take my hat off to you and give full respect for your honourable actions upon that day, and continuing still, everyday, when being called upon as an emergency service provider, in the effort to save human lives.

    Love you all.

A terrorist cannot be rehabilitated. I AM a peaceful person, yet I want the terrorists killed. They have no respect for life or rights - even of their own religion and people.

We owe it to the up and coming generations to stop them, period.

Celtic, I saw the same thing on CBS last night. I had never seen the footage before.

Watching the inner workings of the NYPD was very emotional. Watching them go into tower 1 and watching the chaplin die before my eyes was heart rendering. I remember reading about the chaplin dying and how sad that was. Watching him die before my eyes is something I will never forget.

When the building collapsed around them and they still escaped....I was stunned. Watching it from the outside was horrible. Watching them from the inside I could see how people thought it was armageddon.

The film makers, two brothers from France, did a wonderful job keeping the camera's rolling. They showed what the firefighters went through.

Of all the TV tributes and shows on yesterday, this was by far the most riveting and moving.

The evil people who did this and continue to try to do this type of horrible destruction need to be eliminated. Hopefully bin Laden will be found alive; I hope they dismember him slowly. Digit by digit. Let him die slowly so he can think about what he did.

Dismember him slowly? Well, I don't think I would go that far, but agree that this is how it makes you feel. But havn't we already come further than this as a human race, the fact that we have laws that treat even crinimals with a degree of dignity and justice?

    Take care

There are those in the world who just cannot understand that evil exists and that someone must do something to stop it. Reasoning with these people is not the answer because they have their own agenda and reason is not a part of it. The British learned that prior to ww2 when Chamberlin tried to reason with Hitler. We all know the result of that effort. Welcome back from the dark side Mark. Bill

Celtic, I too watched that program the firefighters taped. It was very sad and made you feel like you were right there in the midst of the destruction. I hate to be graffic but it was shocking to hear the bodies falling and making that sound, I will never forget that sound. The look of the firefighters when they heard it and the look on their faces said it all. Many expressed thru tears and unable to finish their sentences about how bad it must have been up there for people to choose to jump.

In the first part when all the firefighters were in the lobby section, they were all standing around and it was sad to see them there, ready to go up and save lives and see their faces, afraid but yet ready to do their job. My son and I watched it together and it was sad to see the preist praying and the helplessness in his face and then after the building collapsed on them, he was killed and they carried him out. One minute alive for so many then, a few seconds death. I am amazed anyone made it out alive after seeing first hand , thanks to the camera man what it really looked like being right there in the lobby of the tower. It was very moving when the two real brothers were united , and seeing all the other firefighters waiting for their "brothers" to return.

I thought it was interesting that the youngest firefighter, I think they called him a Probe, said after what he saw in that tower, he would fight and kill for his country. He said it thru tears . These men said things I have never heard about before and explained things the way they saw them there at ground zero. Again I don't mean to be graffic and don't want to destrub anyone , but onc said it was "raining body parts", can you imagine the emotional trauma these men went thru and are still going thru? It really opened by eyes to how bad it all was that day. Not to mention the other attacks on the Pentegon, the plane that went down in Penn. , and who knows what other attacks that were planned for that day.

In the film, you saw many, many children, being carried in strollers by their mothers, carried out clinging to their fathers, with the look of fear in their eyes. It was hard to watch but I felt I needed to watch it with my son, since this is a topic in school. I think the man who taped this was merciful to us, in sparing us the very worst horrific things he could have taped and decided not to out of human respect. In fact he could have taped 2 people buring alive and he choose not to film it out of respect and said no one should ever see what he just witnessed.

It was supposed to be a documentary on how a boy become a man, a new firefighter becomes a real firefighter. They just happen to be filming and finishing up the last segment, which was to show the new guy going to a real fire. They had no idea of what was about to unfold. The vet firefighters said the probe, the new firefighter had become a man in a matter of 9 hours instead of 9 months. It was one of the most touching things I have ever seen. And JW's believe that all these good selfless people will be destroyed in armeggedon, for not being JW's ,,,,,,,,,,,, this notion the JW's have ,literally makes me sick. Seeing this documentary moved me to make my own thead about it last night, it just reassured me the good in mankind.

Too bad that you forget the terroized little girl running naked from the napalm dropped from a US plane. Too bad that American propaganda overules our senses so that we believe whatever is put before us. The Bushes claimed that Iraq was on the border of Saudi Arabia and that babies had been pulled out of incubators in Kuwait by the Iraqies- Both have since been proven as lies. Those lies were thrown at the American public to rally support for the attack.

Now another Bush- abusing 9-11 rallies support to attack Iraq again. Exagerations and possible outright lies- It is so hard to except that the villins in the 9-11 attacks killed themselves in the attack- "We will get Bin Ladin!" Was Bushes original battle cry- Still not confirmed whether we "got" him or not- And with over 7,000 US troops still fighting an unfinished battle against rebels in Afgananstan- Bush wants to attack another country- Hey dudes we have not finished what we started in Afganastan yet!!

So let's predict the future here- Now we send troops to Iraq- We send Sadam underground just like we did Bin Laden- Just like Bin Ladin Sadam has vigerous supporters over there. So then we will have 7,000 forgotten troops fighting in Afganastan and another 7,0000 fighting and forgotten in Iraq- Then where will Bush go next? And does this action stop terrorism? Does stomping out Sadam slow terrorism? Will it make a difference? Does this action avenge the deaths of Americans on 9-11?
