I think that I heard it today.

This morning, I was sat in the Millenium Stadium, Cardiff, Wales, not regettably, watching an International football / rugby competition, but a charity absailing event.

To gave us all a taste of the normal atmosphere when 70,000 are present, the organisers played us the Welsh national Anthem over the superb sound system. Oh wow, I still have goosepimples. it was incredible.

Sorry Canada, I know Mulan rated you tops earlier this year, but Wales have, IMHO, got the Worlds Best Anthem!

Or does anyone think differently, perhaps?

I love my Anthem as it brings tears to my eyes everytime I sing it "Oh Canada EH" but I would have to say any Anthem is awesome and when you see people singing it with the pride that they do you can understand how greatful they are to be from that Country!

Very stirring, indeed. The english translation is very sweet.

I agree with Beans, rather than get into a "who's best" contest, I'm just glad that we are in a position (i.e. outside the bOrganziation) to discuss the merits and artistic quality of national anthems without feeling "bad" about it!

    Quotes & Beans,

A very gracious reply from both of you Canadians.

I think that one of the nicest things about leaving the JW's, is that you can let your national pride surface without fear of censure. I do recall all those Americans stood outside Buck Palace in London, listening to their anthem being played by the Queens guards just after 9/11. It was one of the most moving things I have ever seen.

    Englishman:

I forgot to mention how jealous I was that you were at this event. I played rugby for four years and would have continued had it not been for my screwed up shoulders. It is my dream next time I am in Scotland to go see a game, this is one of the most amazing games in my book and is not as popular as it should be.

I miss putting everything into hitting a man and driving him into the ground with all your force. This is one of the most physically demanding games in the world and is played with pure heart!

It's an incredible place, all right!

    Here it is:

Apparently, it cost almost 200 million, the new English stadium to be built at Wembley will run out at 750 million.

I felt compellled to respond to this thread being a Welshman and indeed an altruistic supporter of the National side. However not wanting to appear mercenary or indeed antagonistical to our Canadian bretheren, I must agree that all National Anthems are I suspect would indeed bring a tear or two to ones eye.

Having attended the Millenium Stadium on international day there is a somewhat eccentric encounter to enjoy especially if wales are playing england. I can indeed in the strongest possible terms attest to the enigma of atmosphere that surrounds the stadium when 72500 voices are orchestrated in perfect harmony.

I did read somewhere the story of the American National Anthem and that has a very moving history. Much better than our "God Save Our Tax Dodger"

I sang a few Jdub "anthems" at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff this year, but I suppose they don't count!!

My favourite is the German one, so I can do my Hancock impersonation and sing "Coughs and Sneezes spread diseases, trap your germs in your handkerchief!"
