Simply Red: Holding Back The Years

    Holding back the years
    thinking of the fear
    I've had so long
    when somebody hears
listen to the fear that's gone

Strangled by the wishes of pater
hoping for the arms of mater
get to meet her sooner or later

    Holding back the years
chance for me to escape from all I know
    holding back the tears
    there's nothing here has grown

    I've wasted all my tears
    wasted all those years
(and) nothing had the chance to be good
    ('cause) nothing ever could yeah
oh well I'll keep holding on

    I'll keep holding on
    I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on so tight

    expatbrit,
I've always liked this song. It came out when I was an 8th grader in junior high school. That year a popular 6th grade girl in our school was accidently killed from a gunshot that discharged from a shotgun found in the attic of her best friend's house. The brother of her friend was playing around with the gun when the "accident" happened.

It was a bittersweet year, lots of great things happening when I was 14. But the song always brings me back to the sights and sounds of that tragic time. I can still remember clearly the announcement made over the intercom on the Monday morning after the weekend it happened. Everytime I hear that song I grieve that young life cut short. Casey would have been all grown up by now.

Thanks for adding in the lyrics. I've got the Simply Red Greatest Hits CD and play it once in awhile.
