This planet is the most earth-like planet discovered to-date. It's at the right distance from its sun to allow for liquid water and life, and it has a year of 385 days - only 20 days longer than our own year!

When dubs point to earth's distance from the sun as evidence of design, just ask them why Kepler-452b is the right distance from its star to be able to sustain life.

I just saw that article too. I love these new discoveries, guess thousands of eldubs should be changing their talk outlines where they drone on for 15 minutes about how the earth is just right and that just an impossible coincidence.

Oops, guess not @$$holes. go go gadget new light...

So this planet is 1400 light years from us. If there were intelligent life there they'd be looking at us through their telescopes and seeing us as primitive desert goat herders the way we were/are 1400 years ago. There wouldn't be barely a light on here!

Unfortunately, from what I read the star it orbits is much older than the sun so while the planet might technically be able to support life, its atmosphere and water are probably evaporating. It's a dying planet similar to what the Earth will be like in a billion or so years.

Or maybe they're all still bronze age goatherds themselves!

Or maybe they are 500 million years more advanced than us and can't be bothered with us.

To me, the issue with intelligent life "out there" isn't just finding a planet in the "Goldilocks zone" - it's finding one whose life forms are not 250 million years from reaching our level of intelligence, or one that is 750 million years more advanced than us, or whatever.

atmosphere and water are probably evaporating.

perhaps not, it has twice the gravity, hanging on to it's gases, and would-be-people. To live there, start a serious weight-loss program, you weigh twice as much, it takes 4 times the energy to jump, climb stairs.

Expect the perfect beings to be smaller there. They would evolve to have a perfectly designed planet for them too.
