The Parable of the Worldly Man
A man was traveling the I95 from Daytona Beach to Fort Lauderdale, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They took his car, beat him, and took off, leaving him half dead. A Witness saw him on the way to his assigned district, and passed by on the other side. But a when a Worldly Man on business saw the beaten man by the side of the road, he dialed 911 on his cell. He went to him and held his hand until the paramedics came. When he found out that the man did not have Medical insurance, he followed the ambulance to the hospital, and offered his line of credit. 'Look after him,' he said, 'I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' The hospital happened to be part of the assigned district of the Witness, so he happened stopped by to offer a magazine and spiritual guidance. Which of these do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?

The Story of the Silver Necklace
It was Christmas many years ago, I can't remember which one. I was a young, young parent with babies, and my sister was on her way to becoming a Doctor. She opened a special gift that year, in a small narrow box. A silver necklace, three strands. For graduating, my dad said. There was no box for me. How I yearned for a necklace like that, and for what it represented. But of course she had worked hard for that gift, I could not begrudge her that. And instead of continuing school, I had chosen to have babies instead.
The years passed. I grew up, my children grew up. One Christmas there was a box for me. A single strand silver choker. "For graduating from the school of hard knocks", my dad said.
hey xenaw, wrong thread to post this on, but.....nice win by the Pack. The football gods were angered at the Bears - that Blue on Blue look was ugly. Ye Gods!
The Bike Shrunk
Boy and bike wobbled down the sidewalk, then tumbled again. The shiny blue bike was not much worse for wear, but my son's eyes misted, and his lips trembled dangerously. My boy pleaded, "Can't I have a different bike?"
I looked in to those troubled eyes, and bit back a sensible retort. My dad, true to his nature, had bought us a "sensible" bike big enough to grow in to, but too big for a six year old. We were poor. I was raising my two children without a father or any support. If this bike would not do, then my son would have no bike at all. I looked down the shaded street, the trees turned to red and gold. Soon there will be snow, then months of winter. I glanced to heaven, then down in to my son's tear-stained face.
Why don't we pray about it? Maybe God will shrink the bike.
All winter my son prayed his prayer. And I prayed mine.
God, don't let him down and his budding faith. Help my boy to grow and the bike to shrink.
Spring came. The bike, still bright and blue, was pulled from the basement. My boy and I took it to the gas station, and filled the tires. We brought it home, and oiled the gears. We rolled it out to the sidewalk. A shadow passed over the brow of my tow-headed son, as he remembered past failures.
Give it a try. Remember, you prayed God would shrink the bike.
(As I glanced quickly towards heaven.) My boy leg swung over the bar easily, as he set down the street. A miracle! He did not wobble, he did not fall. First time.
That bike lasted forever, it seemed. It suffered hard use and boyish repairs, but my boy refused to let it go, even when we could have afforded it. A bike grown to perfect size, well used, well loved.
Thankyou thankyou thankyou Simon! (I made an html boo boo, and he fixed it!).
