take something with an anti-inflammatory in it- Ibubrofen or something. And if you have a sling- put it on and immobilize your arm. But make sure that you move the arm around a bit many times a day or you can end up with "frozen shoulder" My shoulder separates every now and then and sometimes instead of separating, the muscle just becomes inflammed. So I have to sling it for a few days. My doc gives me an anti-inflammatory prescription during those times. Alternate heat and cold with it too.

((((((((((((Xandria))))))))))))) sorry this is happening. I know how much it hurts- Yikes!

OTC muscle relaxants can help as well. Just make sure the painkiller you take isn't the one found in the relaxant. (you can take aspirin or ibuprophen with tylenol)

If it doesn't feel better in a couple of days using the hot/cold compresses/ immobilizing/ muscle relaxants - see your doctor.

Actually, attending the MB apostofest sounds like a Sure Cure - ocean water works wonders.

Other people have put up fine info - and an anti-inflammatory will help a lot. Take care & hope to see you in a couple of short weeks. And hope you feel better shortly!

Ice packs for swelling and inflammation; alternate with warm compresses, 20 minutes for each

You can take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) - Advil/Motrin (= ibuprofen) with regular tylenol OR tylenol with codeine (provided you have no allergies to any of these meds or ASA) for pain relief using different "pain pathways". If you're taking NSAIDs OR Aspirin (ASA), be sure to take it with food as they can be irritating on an empty stomach. DO NOT under any circumstances take multiple NSAIDs or ASA with NSAIDs.

Try to get the pain under control so that you can maintain as much mobility as possible. If you put your arm in a sling or "favor" your sore shoulder too much, you'll have to rehabilitate with some physiotherapy for "frozen shoulder". Been there, done that.

A good exercise to maintain the range of motion in your shoulder is to raise your affected arm sideways as you stand at a 90-degree angle to a wall. Slowly "walk" your fingers up the wall until you feel discomfort, then slowly "walk" your fingers back down. Begin by doing a couple of reps several times daily, gradually working the # of repetitions up, and gradually increasing the mobility of your shoulder, until you have no more pain. After you've finished your exercises, put an ice pack on for 10-15 minutes, followed by heat (hot water bottle or a warm blanket or towel). Your eventual goal is to be able to raise your arm straight up without pain.

    Get well soon!

Thank you all for your advice and well wishes. I think I pulled it in my sleep of all things. Because when I woke up yikes!!!!

So between my husband limping around with his cane and me we looked like the living dead. I joke we had a dry run for Holloween.

It is not as bad pain wise as it was. I have now pain meds to deal with the pain. It is been reduced to a soreness rather than a sharp pain and burning up and down my arm. Thank you all again.

    Strained shoulders.... living hell.

A few things that relieved my pain.

Certain yoga moves. Go to a yoga teacher, pay her to show you and walk you through exercises that relief shoulder tightness.

A brace that kept my shoulders pulled back helped.

    Massage
