Hi everyone .. Sorry to scare you lke this. Just thought you'd like to see who it is you been speaking to.

    Dr.Phil Is My Witness

I love Dr. Phil. He is a man after my own heart.

He gives support to much of what I have been saying here on the board.

The subject of his program today was combating phobias. Some of you will recall my saying that by controlling what we believe we can overcome phobias almost instantly. Dr. Phil agrees.

He said There is no reality only perception.

He also said "Its not what happens to you that is important but how you percieive whats happening.

He had several people on with various phobias. One was afraid of driving. Another was afraid of flying. But the one that was most educational was the one with a general fear of death.

About this Dr. Phil told the sufferer that no can control how it is they die. The only thing we can control is how we live.

The only way we can avoid being afraid of death is facing the fact when we die is totally out of our control. We in order to live a focused secure life have to learn to trust in a higher power. This higher power he readily admits he calls God. You have to look death right in the eye and call his bluff.

Without trust in God we can easily like the woman on the show become immobilized with the very idea of dying.

Dr. Phil explained that what people are really afraid of is not the thing that triggers their fear but in reality their fear is of being out of control.

Dr. Phil says fear serves a useful purpose when it is balanced with the risks. Irrational fear despite the slim chances of harm serves no one well.

I have concluded the supernatural power of faith and trust in God should not be underestimated. It is the one thing that seperates us from the animals. Animals are the direct product of their environment. Humans despite their environment can make their lives what they want it to be by their choices of what they believe.

    Hi Zech,

I totally agree. Belief in a higher power has many benefits and a stablizing effect on our fears. That is, as long as it is not perverted by egomaniac religionists.

There is no reality? Only perception?

Hmmm, if I take a meat cleaver and take your arm off, you're going to find that despite all your perception, the reality is that you're going to bleed to death quite quickly. I don't suggest you do that experiment, but if you choose to, you'll find that reality does exist and that it's quite consistent.

However, I do agree that perception is many times false and exaggerated and makes a person miserable. But don't make the mistake that there is no reality. There is reality AND there is perception. BOTH exists.

    Megadude,

You are missing the point. Everything that happens in life is subject to perception. There is always two ways at looking at everything. There is positive and there is negative. Those who encourage like yourself people to be realistic are just being pessimistic. You think of the worse and count your troubles rather than your blessings.

Take for example the case you outline. So you say someones arm gets cut off. You suggest that one should face the forgone conclusion he bleeds to death. Certainly perception matters a great deal in life and death circumstances such as this.

Do you become resigned to your death because you except the perception you are going to die or do you have a positive perception. That perception would translate into a commitment and expectation of survival that enlists spiritual forces in miraculous ways to aid in that survival. It is called faith or positive thinking.
    POEM

Mind, the master power that mould and makes

And man is mind and evermore he takes

The tools of thought and shaping what he wiils

Brings forth a thousand joys and a thousand ills

He thinks in secret and it comes to pass

Environment is but his looking glass.

    Wackyriah,

I was only addressing the silly phrase "there is no reality."

I agree that everything in life is subject to perception, but I don't agree with the claim that perception is everything.

I'm an optimist because that is the best way to live....realistically.
