Stuff JW Kids Can't Do - Help!

  I need some help here, because I can't find something I think I originally saw on this forum. What I'm talking about is a long list of stuff that JW kids aren't allowed to do (e.g., Join the scouts, celebrate Halloween, etc.) I know I've seen it online, but now that I need it, I can't find it. Can anyone direct me to it?

  Here's the thing: I've been asked by the church that I'm attending to teach a one-time Sunday School class on the JW's. It's for kids in about the junior high school range (I'll be doing an adult class later on). I think it would impress the kids to show them that list, probably more than a lot of theology would impress them. The list contained lots of things that kids would relate to wanting to do. So I'd really like to find it again. Does anybody remember where it is?

  Thanks, Scully. That will help, although the list I remember was more a bulleted-style list that someone had composed. If need be, I guess I'll re-compile the list from the thread you cited.

  About ten years ago I did a smiliar program for the high school group at our church. At the time we had three services every morning, the last being the largest of the three groups I taught that morning. This worked very well for me at the last one: I started going through the list (working off the top of my head). "If you're wearing jeans, stand up; if you're male and are not wearing a tie stand up; if your a girl and wearing pants stand up; if you're a a boy and you have any part of your body pierced stand up; if you're a girl and you have anything other than your ears pierced stand up." I think their were some more, sports, dating etc. By the time I was done virtually the whole room (several hundred kids) were on their feet. I then said that if we were witnesses, every one on their feet would be getting called to a meeting about their spiritual weakness. I then followed that up with what it meant, exactly, to be called into the back room. It made a very big impression on them.

  I did a program for the UU Youth Group and brought in my REASONING book. We played a game called "Stump the Witness"--where I knocked on the door and they tried to get rid of me. I used the REASONING book to show them how completely controlled a JW's responses were. They thought it was a blast, I got invited back the next week(the only one on the program that year to get invited back) and after they wanted to know where they could get a copy of that book so they could be prepared to defeat the next JW who knocked on their door! Do you know how tempted I was to go to KH and get some REASONING books and report my time? I would have placed more books than I ever had in 15 yrs of pioneering!

  That sounds like a great idea, and I may try it in modified form, though I don't think that everything you used with high school kids might be applicable with the younger group I'm addressing (e.g., piercings). Also, it's a much smaller group, just 15 kids or so. But I love the concept, and may well try to adapt it.
