Meditation

I was just reading a posting about demons, and a response mentioned something about meditating and how that might allow demons in.

I remember very clearly, back in the old days of going to the hall, there was speculation on that subject. How meditation was wrong, and that if you emtied your mind out, then demons would go in. How crazy is that?

Then witnesses would talk about martial arts, and how being a martial artist meant lots of meditation, and that would allow demons in, and therefore martial arts are demonized by nature.

Not to mention the shaolin priests, who were practising false religion, so then that made the martial arts a demonic religion.

When I left the witnesses, I became quite active in martial arts, achieving black belt in several different styles. As I started, there was no meditation, but as I rose the ranks, we were introduced to proper breathing methods, and during which, we could meditate. Started slowly, then again, as I achieved black belt, we did it much more often. Then it became more enjoyable as we learned more.

However, contrary to witness teachings, I did not meditate to learn to oh, levitate, or do impossible feats that are popular in the movies. What it did teach, was becoming more in tune with your body, your mind, etc. What a fantastic role meditating can be, when taught and used correctly. I certainly did not become demonized, nor have I seen any demonic activity in any studio that I learned in. Amazing what the human body can do, though, when taught correctly. Everything that I learned, had complete medical backing, as far as what the body can do, and why it reacts the way it does. It is all scientific, medical, etc. The body really is awesome. Nothing to do with the devil.

Once again, the WTS talks out of their ass, about things they have no idea of. Too bad they don't really investigate before writing things down as "truth" and expecting everyone to obey and listen without question or investigating themselves.

I took one lesson in martial arts. I became totally centered on my body. It was a wonderful experience. I was told that I had natural ability. I didn't feel demonized at all, only in control. Maybe that's why the organization doesn't like it. You gain control of your thoughts and your body.

Plus, the witnesses always taught that it was all about violence.

Hardly so. Protection, sure. Learn to defend yourself, absolutely. But, I learned so much more than that. How about self control, how about self esteem, how about realizing what you can do and just walking away from a situation. How about learning to perhaps save your life, or that of a loved one. How about fitness, and with that having a healthier body, and lifestyle.

    Sounds pretty good to me.

I was doing it every day for a while. Now, i do it occasionally. It's a great mental purifier. The way i do it, it's a detaching from thoughts. If a person had a spirit attatched, it might be detatched from as well. It certainly doesn't allow demons in, if they existed.

I do martial arts and use meditation all the time. My focus was on charging "chi" and feeling "ki" and using them to better my skill. I do not think they have anything to do with demons and would recommend them for the development of many skills in life. I can not see how any form of martial arts would benefit from ignoring these concepts. Martial arts is 80% mental and 20% physical. Before I took my black belt test I had only scratched the surface of meditation. Since then, I accept many aspects of meditation and see the benefit in applying it to many aspects of my life, that you would like to acheive success in.

...and I remember the contradiction that was always thrown in our face - you know - "meditate on what you read but don't you dare practice any form of meditation"! Confused, just one of those things that mess up minds at the WT. I meditate daily, now, and find its probably one of the few things I do that helps me keep my sanity, at least from bubbling over too much...
