MT.10:23 "for truly i say to you,You will by no means complete the circuit of Israel until the son of man arrives".THE 1986 to 1985 WT.Publication index give only two places where they interpret this verse, really its only one place.remember the series"Jesus life and ministry",that became the book the Greatest Man who ever lived.(wt.87,8/1 pg.9 ) and 1991 chapther 50,GT.Book.I bring this up because earlier it was suggested that an elder visiting a congregation said that the preaching work would come to a halt and the jws would have a warning signal that Armageddon was very near. This was thought to be new light something that was mentioned at the annual meeting.Way back in 1987 wt.and repeated in 1991 gt.book it was said , and i quote,"So when saying that his disciples would not complete their circuit of preaching"until the son of man arrives",Jesus was prophetically telling us that his disciples would not complete the circuit of the entire inhabited earth with the preaching about God's established Kingdom before the glorified King Jesus Christ would arrive as Jehovah's executional officer at Armageddon".Unquote.Nowhere else has this verse been explained any differently, that i am aware of.How does the wt. reconcile this explanation with MT.24:14 "This goodnews of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations then the end will come."Where they write tons of material contrary to the explanation given in 1987 and 1991.Either it will or it won't which is it.So,nothing new from the annual meeting as i see it.Just another LURE to confuse the rank and file.I myself do not accept any explanation given by the wt.

I don't think they always do either - that's why they're always looking for the two way bet - one horse is called new light and the other one old light - when there's only two horses in the race, one of them always wins - the wtbts doesn't participate in other sorts of races, cause they mightn't win - so any fast looking upstarts of their own just get scratched.

Albert Schweitzer believed that this verse, along with Mark 9:1 and 13:30, showed that Jesus predicted the coming of the Son of Man within the lifetime of the apostles and that he erred in this. However, others believe that "the cities of Israel" refers to wherever Jews live in the whole world, but that seems to force the text. The simplest solution, it seems to me, is that Jesus expected the coming after an interval which he left undetermined in detail. See Mark 13:32

    Blueblades,

Well I think you did very well to pick this up. The WT view is not correct as you indicated. They make everything so complicated all the time when they do not understand the texts. This was something His disciples were to understand and preach in fact and very soon at that for He said just a few verses later:

26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.

The word arrives or come in this text was: ercomai erchomai er-khom-ahee and it means to come into being, arise, come forth, show itself, find place or influence. One of the most disturbing things our Lord told His disciples in the course of this ministry was:

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

John 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

Therefore this verse in Matthew 10:23 was fulfilled with the resurrection of our Lord and preaching Christ and Him resurrected became a central theme of the apostles.

Acts 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
