Our culty but genealogy obsessed chums at the Mormon church have now put online the 1880 U.S. census, for all our American compadres to dig up the dark secrets of their family's romantic past!

Genealogy is hokey to some, but I absolutely got addicted after I started doing my family history. I have found many long lost cousins, after finding out my grandfather had other brothers and sisters.
Also beware of the family surprises: I found my other grandfather's "love child" from almost 50 years ago. DNA tests proved it...
Oh, thanks for posting that and the link to it! I'll be checking it out soon. I've been considering joining Ancestry.com too.

Great! Thanks. I haven't done much genealogy lately. I used to belong to Ancestry.com, but seldom went there. The money wasn't worth it. I do recommend the book club online at familytreemaker.com. I found tons of stuff there. $9.95 a month or $50 a year.
I have been researching my husband's mom's side of the family. It is a historical family in the Revolutionary War, back to Ireland and Scotland. There is a museum here in Charlotte that is the homestead of my husband's ancestor Uncle, Hezekiah Alexander. Who built the house in 1774, Hezekiah's daughter Mary, married Charlies ( known as, Devil Charley) Polk. Now Devil Charley wasn't nicked named that for just any reason. He had a terrible temper and a mean streaked sense of humor. At a dance he locked the doors and opened a cellar door, that was under the window and yelled fire.. you can only imagine the result. One of many escapades.
Then he killed Mary in what he stated was an accident. He states he was cleaning his gun when it went off and killed Mary. That did not go over too well with the family needless to say. They were a lively bunch to say the least. But then again most Scots-Irish were hell raisers.
Researching family has been a journey into the past. But what has aided me was the documents we have that date 1800's. The real difficult research is to come with the spanish side of my father's family and I am just beginning on my mom's. So any resources are greatly appreciated.
