Two Goddesses
(Copyright 2002 Richard Nazar)
When I please two goddesses, life is sweet.
My crops are good, the volcano does not rumble.
One blesses me with friendship,
The other with love.
As long as I obey and sacrifice.
But when I sin,
The goddesses are both enraged.
And go to war.
With a heavenly fury that consumes me.
But the virgins are gone.
There is only me.
And I ain't no virgin.
The volcano doth rumble,
Brimstone spews forth.
Lava is certain to follow.
For each wants a sacrifice.
But the virgins are gone.
There is only me.
And I ain't no virgin.
If I climb to the mountain top,
Hurl myself into the fiery pot.
Will the goddesses forgive?
Will each know the sacrifice is for her?
Or think it is for the other only?
Will each know they have won?
Or feel they have lost?
Will they be more enraged?
Will they feel hurt?
Will they heal?
The heavenly war will go on,
But will they forgive me?
And bring my soul back to life?
For
One blesses me with friendship,
The other with love.
As long as I obey and sacrifice.
