from a report in today's Canberra Times:

Apparently, at one stage in his interrogation Elder Dino Ali must have explained the following.

"Mr Ali told the commission he did not believe church law replaced secular law and said the organisation worked with legal authorities."

Elder Ali's statement is not the real truth is it? The real truth is much more layered than the impression that Elder Ali wanted to give.

One layer is that the JW's believe that the laws of the nations are the laws of Satan, because the world is under the domination of Satan. (John 14:30). Therefore they usually believe that they do NOT HAVE TO cooperate with the legal forces of the nations.

So in consequence we have a second layer, in that most dyed-in-the-wool JWs will believe that the laws of the Yahweh/Jesus combo God are superior to the laws of the nations. Ephesians 2:2 (NASB)underscores that belief:

"you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience."
Another layer is in their attitude to repentence, the concept that if God has forgiven someone (After confession of sins, which is also a tricky doctrine) then what the nations do is their problem and not the witnesses.

And still another layer is 'brand protection,' which they share in common with their spiritual cousins in other churches, notably the Catholic church, which did the same evil things to the victims, as our former (not-so-) loving brothers. Their spiritual nakedness is clear now that vigorous questioning has stripped their defence.

And the final layer, is that they are conceited enough to firmly believe that any day now, the BIG A will come and when the dust settles THEY will judge the earth in wisdom

    What bullshit!

But let's remember that witness beliefs are all rooted (somehow) in the Judeao-Christian ideology. The JWs may be an extreme example, and some of the others may have abandoned some of the extreme beliefs, but in the end, its the whole ideology that underlines their stupidity

Funny how none of those layers seem to acknowledge the legitimacy of the laws by virtue of the "superior authorities put in their places by God".

But what about "we must obey God as ruler, rather than men" ?

This is turning out to be very interesting. And definitely eye-opening for anyone who has never been associated with the Borg.

I don't believe the transcript reconciles with the opening post.

    Q. Well, the real reason is, isn't it, that you see your structures within the church as replacing, standing in the place of, the civil structures?

    A. Only when it comes to spiritual matters, and if those morals have - people - those within the church have crossed those, the guidelines are that they take the steps to remove the person, protect, then, through either instructions or personal counselling to those that are involved with that family, and warning them of not allowing their children to stay overnight with this person, never to be alone with this person, never to work alone or go anywhere with that person. So many have been made aware of that.
