    Proverbs in Conflict...

    Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

A silent man is a wise one.
A man without words is a man without thoughts.

    Look before you leap.
    He who hesitates is lost.

    Many hands make light work.
Too many cooks spoil the broth.

    Actions speak louder than words.
The pen is mightier than the sword.

    Clothes make the man.
Don't judge a book by its cover.

It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.
The nail that sticks out gets hammered.

    Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
    Better safe than sorry.

It seems all the wisdom of those who are considered wise or inspired has caused more wars and conflicts than the dumb asses like me.

    Hi, Simplesally!

Excellent observations. This comparison of two conflicting proverbs is quite appropriate for me! (sometimes):

A silent man is a wise one.
A man without words is a man without thoughts

Yes, Undecided, that is kind of the point, that one man says something we think is "Ah, so profound, so true," and then someone else says the complete opposite which is so "Ah, so profound, so true," as well!!

Just goes to show you, you can't be 100% right all the time.

That reminds me of some funny dialogue from Fiddler on the Roof:

    'He's right..he's right...they can't both be right'

'You know, you are also right!'

    Good ones.

Whenever someone says, "Age before beauty," I have been known to counter with, "Pearls before swine."
