Wow! What a night it was. Here in the piedmont triad area of North Carolina we got hit pretty hard with an ice storm. Luckily the power in my part of the city was spared (it flickered on and off a bunch but never went out completely) Trees are down all over the place, and in most of the city the power is out. I took a few pics. One of the trees almost hit our house, but missed it. The pic is below. The kids found the whole thing interesting, and school was canceled today as well as tomorrow, so they are happy :) Glad to hear that you and your family are O.K. Ken!

    Take care

WOW Between, you sure did get hit!!! We got hit too, but not as bad as you! I'm in Nashville Tn. and it's all starting to melt. We got about 2 inches of snow. It was so pretty, but just didn't last. I love snow, but I think if I got hit with it as bad as some folks did, I wouldn't be so crazy about it!

    Hope you're staying warm!

    Wow pretty pics.

It reminds me of the days when we were young and pioneered up north. We would go out the next after a storm because we would find so many people at home! (oh what fools we were ). We did enjoy looking at all the icles hanging off of everything and was glad we made it back home after 8 hours to enjoy looking at the ice. (We used to be real good at getting ourselves out of a snowbank.

Thanks for the compliment Joy! Yes we sure did get some Dusies up North to be sure. I grew up in central NY so I know just what you mean :)

    HI Shelli,

We got very little ice, and the ice we did get was in flakes rather than freezing rain. We didn't have any trees down. It was colder here than in Greensboro so the water was frozen before it fell. Just a few miles can make a difference.

Hope everything is going well for you, Steve and the kids.

    Hey Prisca,

Read your post about the fires and smoke. So sorry Sounds awful. I would gladly send you some of this wet stuff if I could

It started to melt a bit last night, then froze solid as a rock, so now it's even icier than it was before. Give me snow anyday....this ice awful.

    Take care and stay safe!

Yeah... it is bad stuff.. !

We just got our power back after 4 days and 3 days with out phone. The Dillworth, Myers Park and several other areas are like war zones. Downed trees, powerlines, branches etc. The building in down town Charlotte had giant icicles falling from the tops of the buildings shattering several feet below. The City had blocks corded off. After 3 days of no hot water, phone, or heat. The YMCA finally open the doors to people so they can shower.

We lost all food in our refrigerator like a majority of our neighbors did. The information on Shelters and what was out there was not coordinated too well. SO now the National Guard is going door to door. I mean my phone was out and there was a message on it naming shelters. An I did not have phone for 3 days.. so that information did me no good.

I live in the area of Dillworth, etc. We were over-joyed at getting our power on late today. The only scary thing is Tuesday we are expecting more bad weather.

I have invited nieghbors who don't have power yet to come over for heat and showers.

Unfortunate 2 of the workers that came from other states to help restore power were killed in a accident. We had some bad fog this morning.

200 people are in the hospital w/ Carbon Monoxide Poisioning. From trying to keep warm with charcoal. An there have been deaths too.

Heaters are needed as well as diapers, juice, food and other items for survival. The Red Cross is in need and requesting help.
