I am sure people have received these email. There may even be a post on it. It claims to be from [email protected]

You and your heathen apostate brothers are nothing but the spawn of Satan the Devil. Jehovah's purpose will take place and then you will know who is the Most High.

    Very truly yours,

The Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses
    Brooklyn, NY

Considering how easy it is to fake out emails, I suspect someone is out to make trouble.

These types of pranks just help the Witnesses. The Society will focus on the falsehood and say that apostates like to lie about JWs. This undermines the hard work many ex-JWs put into exposing the wrongs of the Watchtower Society.

I can see why people do this. It is fun, and personally I think it is a hoot. Also, the Society will lie about us anyway, so why not have fun? But I recommend we don't do such things because it undermines our important work.

Either the source of the email is a bored Dub, or more likely it is a poster here who is teasing us and hoping we will respond to [email protected] and harass them. But if [email protected] is a real email address...I have no idea if it is, that just gives JWs more "persecution by apostates" material.

Richard, who takes this stuff way too seriously

Yeah Skeptic, I think it was JT who got another email from the same "address." He didn't post the email header info to see where this is coming from. The gb email address is fake and I can only recall one legitimate address with the WTS, that being the webmaster, I think. If you can post the header info, we can disect it and see what the deal is. But you're probably right, it could be a bored jdub or a poster on this forum. I was getting ready to post a series of topics regarding different ways to hide your identity on the web, including email. Now, I'm not so sure if that would be a good idea as this spoofing email routine could get out of hand once everyone knew how to do it.

I admit, it can be a fun practical joke at times to pull on unsuspecting people who do not know any better. **Just for the record, I would not send that type of email to anyone here.** I am more interested in the backbone of networks and the physical infrastructure, as it is very closely tied to my job.

If the spoofer was smart, he would have used a open relay email server to hide his tracks. But if it was a jdub, then my guess would be that they were not that smart. So please post that info when you get a chance.

    My two cents:

I really don't think that the GB has a collective email address. I don't think they use direct email to communicate even internally.

Even if there was a e-mail address designed for the GB, they would not have a clue how to use it. It may be used by the ones helping them out.

The GB is clueless about life, let alone know how to turn on a computer.

I am working on tracking this person down... Counting you skeptic, I know of four people who have recieved it:

    JT, Skeptic, Beans, and XenaWarrior.

Beans has already sent me the headers to his email and I would like to see the headers of the email that anyone else may have received.

If you use Yahoo of Hotmail or some other web email, you should be able to set the "Show Headers" option to "Show All". (Depending on the service you use the titles may be different)

Here is a sample of the Headers of an email so you know when you have got them:
