What would Jesus Drive? Thats easy, he would slave drive. Yes, Jesus encouraged not only slavery, but the beating of slaves (Luke 12:47). The whole question of "What would Jesus do?" is like asking, "What would a criminal do?"

The Jesus I read about in the bible is nothing like the Jesus I hear folks talking about. Sometimes I wonder what book they are getting their facts from. Jesus would be in jail constantly if he did the same things today that he did 2,000 years ago. Jesus and his gang of disciples were always up to no good. They would roam through other peoples crops taking what they wanted (Mark 2:23). He sent his disciples to steal a horse; (Matt 21) so maybe he would have a gang of car thieves now. No wonder he says that we should not try to get back property stolen from us (Luke 6:30). Jesus violence was tempered with irrationality. In an uncontrolled rage he made a herd of swine jump off a cliff into the depths of the sea. (Matt 8:32) He was so angry at a fig tree for not bearing fruit, he cursed it not to grow fruit and it withered away. This happened during the winter months and was not even the season for figs (Matt 21:18-19+Mark 11:13-14).

One thing I do know is that he wouldnt be the side of anti-war demonstrators. Jesus was a man of war. He said, " I came not to send peace, but a sword," (Matt 10:34) He also told his fellow gang members "he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one" (Luke 22:36). In the Old testament Hell was just death or a grave, but Jesus made it into a fiery, everlasting torture (Mark 9:43). How many people were burned alive because of two scriptures, John 15:16 and Ex 22:18?

Shouldn't we seek advice from the wise? How savvy of a guy was this Jesus? Well he taught that we should not make plans for the future (Matt 6:34), don't save any money (Matt 6:19-20), don't become wealthy (Mark 10:21,25), Jesus taught people to sell everything you have and give it to the poor; (Luke 12:33) but at the same time he said to steal money from those who have no savings and give it to the rich investors (Luke 19:23-26). I believe this is was the beginning of the right wing's "trickle down effect" economy.

Jesus also teaches us not to work to obtain food such as meat because it does not last (John 6:27), and that marrying a divorced woman is committing adultery (Matt 5:32). He says to act in such a way that people will want to persecute you, (Matt 5:11) and if someone hits you, invite then to do it again (Matt 5:39). Jesus continues on to say, if you lose a lawsuit give more than the judgement, (Matt 5:40) if someone forces you to walk a mile, walk 2 miles (Matt 5:41). He also says, if anyone asks you for anything, give it to them without question (Matt 5:42). He says that if you do something wrong with your hand, then cut it off, and if you do something wrong with your eye, then pluck it out (Matt 5:29).

Does this sound like someone we should be looking to for advice? No way. Lets not ask "What would Jesus Do," but what would be the smart thing to do?

    Thank You,

    Dave M.

I was born into the Rutherford dooms day cult in 1970. In 1974 after my father would not convert to Jehovah Witness, my mother packed us up and most of the belongings while my father was at work and moved accross country. I do not speak with my mother by choice. I do not want some other kid to grow up in wacked out demonville because she converted some simpleminded parent. Instead of washing toilets as many JW's are doing, I am stuck moving furniture for mostly ungrateful wealthy republicans and self medicating my tramatic and abussive childhood with Marijuana. Is that normal?
