I had a brain storm yesterday and asked Quotes if he had considered a new topic on songs from Kingdom Melodies?
And look what we found! I actually remember the 1983 quote!

The song "Jehovah is our Refuge" sums up the way Witnesses think as well. It paints a picture of appauling mass slaughter all over the world and at the same time the few members of the Jehovah's Witness religion look heavenward with no emotion and complete superciliousness, thinking "Well, we did warn them!"

The Watchtower's Kingdumb Melodies are as bad as Vogon Poetry as JanH pointed out on his old web site years ago.

I'm just recalling sitting with my Dad listening to Tannhauser. He adored Wagners music and never gave a thought to the gods and goddess themes that would have made it verboten to a PO such as he.

The thing that strikes me is that they are, in a way, correct (I can not believe I just said that) .
I mean, music can be very emotional and be used to sway opinion... or should I say, more succintly, "indoctrinate".
I wonder if they realize that the "dark danger" of music is being used by them for that exact reason: to indoctrinate, to sway emotion, to bend personalities to their will.
As usual, a study of JWs results in a huge mass of contradictions and double-think. If someone else's music may be (even in an archaic, obsure manner) related to something "wrong" or "improper" then that music is dangerous. But WT music, which has the stated purpose of "drawing brothers together into one mind, one thought, one language" is not wrong.
OK Beans, now let's sing Song 110: We Thank You Jehovah (I know it's your favorite).

But seriously, didn't you feel feel the force when there were thousands of people singing together at the assemblies, the feeling that you all would be together one day on a peaceful earth. That vision of the paradise earth and all together forever.
