I brought up this topic and so have othwers, but I was reminded by a little bird today that maybe I should bring it up again..

Lets imagine for a moment we had a consortium where we all did handmade arts/crafts or goods, sold specialty merchandise, performed services like web page construction, website hosting, non-Internet types of service business, (No Janitorial Services Please! *LOL*), ebay junk type stuff, whatever. Our consortium would have an online presence, with each vendor having their own page, a highlites page for new products and featured stuff..and a clearinghouse for the monies involved. Maybe some of it going to SL or JWD. Each "vendor" would have a Paypal account and get an email notification for stuff like order requests, reciept of payment, etc..this would also keep payment methods and record keeping uniform. KISS being the operative phrase...

OK, now that we have that scenario, here's a few questions for you all.

    1. Would you participate as either a vendor or puchaser?

    2. Would your choice be affected by the fact that part of the reciepts went to our XJW charities?

    3. If a purchaser would you take issue using Paypal or a simmilar payment system?

    4. If a vendor what would you have to offer as far as goods or services?

    5. Am I just crazy for even thinking of such a thing?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

    Sincerely,

District Overbeer of the "Entreprenuer" class

Valis, I need to ask, what is your selling point for using such a consortium. What is the benefit?

One has to be realistic and ask why people would use such a consortium when it would be fairly simple to set up independantly.

I have always had a distaste for commercialism that is related to religious issues and topics.

I think it would be a great idea. There may be lots of folks out there who have a product or service they may be thinking of getting out there and being able to have something like that all in one place would be like having a "mall" of sorts. That certainly wouldn't detract from someone's ability to market their products or services independently- just perhaps another venue for them.

Take Windchaser's crocheted wash cloths for example. If she were interested in being involved in something like this and may find this type of place an easy place to start for marketing her items. COMF was talking about wooden boxes. Maybe a place for him to start the marketing of those.

There may also be a great deal of wisdom which could be shared amongst members as well. For some it could be an "incubator" for them within an atmosphere they find less threatening than going out totally out on their own.

My feeling is that if there is interest, it shouldn't be something thrown together rapidly but rather entered into with some planning and as many vendor/purchaser concerns as possible addressed ahead of time.

    1. Would you participate as either a vendor or puchaser?

    Yes I would- both

    2. Would your choice be affected by the fact that part of the reciepts went to our XJW charities?

Not affected at all unless the XJW charity isn't buying beer for the "Overbeer"

    3. If a purchaser would you take issue using Paypal or a simmilar payment system?

Nope, have no problem with that

    4. If a vendor what would you have to offer as far as goods or services?

I make beaded items- plates, ornaments, ankle bracelets, boxes and frames.

    5. Am I just crazy for even thinking of such a thing?

Yes, you are crazy but this idea has nothing to do with it

    guest...sure why not?

troucul..*LOL* yeah, you can only retire after Armageddon has come and gone...

ballistic, well for one I know there is all kinds of talent here and we could easily find a way to purchase goods and services from each other, whether it be web space, scooter's fine jams, pickles and other goodies, trauma_hound's art, farkel and dizzycat's music, legal or consulting services in various professions of those here, any of our business ventures that might help one another, or just your junk. The benefit might be several things, including a better relationship between us all, SL and JWD might get some funds, and getting the opportunity to make some money for all involved. All good things IMO.

ThiChi, yes I know and I feel the same, although we do have that as a commonality, it should't impede us as a group to try and better ourselves and the group we associate with. I'm not suggesting by any means that such a website have anything to do with JWD except maybe linking, and the concept that as a group we all know about it and could benefit by buying or selling there.

I appreciate your replies regardless of whether or not you bothered to anwer my questions... Thanks, as every angle helps.

    Sincerely,

    District Overbeer

I embroider golf towels and sell them on ebay. They are machine embroidered and personalized.

I generally sell them around Christmas and Father's Day. I would consider selling them through your business.
