Saving for the future - The results

An old JW freind from way back contacted me and asked to borrow a sizable amount of money to get out of deb. He realy sounded desperate and I offerd him an oppertunity to earn some money wich he gladly accepted. But what realy pisses me off is that as a JW's they don't save ( or study) for the future. So when armageddon dosn't come who do they turn to ( an apostate ! ). He is in an area with many wealthy JWs. (They are wealthy because they didn't follow the "Armagedon is comming" mind set and exploited those that did) They can't lend him the money because there is nothing in it for them - they can't make a profit out of a brother in need.

So if I were to get disfelloshiped / disassociated again (something that is highly likely) what do you thing the chances are of getting paid. If it came to a dispute and he went to the elders to settle "in house" whos side would they take.

(I have managed to aquire my finaces through hard work and a bit of luck since leaving the borg. When I left the borg I was more or less pennyless )

As we all were. I think they will of course take the brothers side. My father in law screwed us royally in a financial situation and we were the baddiesLOLAs for your recourse you can sue his behind which might make them wake up and smell the coffee. It always irked me that everyone that begged got help but the real needy went hungry bawh bawh bawh. So if your leaving as for the money in a ceritified letter then sue if you do not get adequite payment arrangements!

If he is still a JW, why don't the brothers help him out. It is their obligation to help a brother in need no matter what. That just shows how many lack love for one another. If you pass him money, you show more love than the rest of the congregation, but you are taking a chance in losing the money, if he can't pay you back.

He is/was a good friend so I don't hold anything against him - It's the mindset that bothers me. Who picks up the peices when it all turns to shirt. I would like to help but I see too many problems. In the past I have seen a lot of money matters go badly wrong. When I was involved in money problems the elders advice was always to let myself be defrauded for the sake of peace in the congragation - perhaps thats why no one in his local gong will help.

I think it may be an opportunity to point out a few thins and free him from the borg.

Follow your experience because like you said

I would like to help but I see too many problems
Just tell him no. If he is a friend, he will understand.

    Hi,

Just tell him no. If he is a friend, he will understand

This is good advice. However, if you choose not to take it, only make a SECURED loan. Get the title to a car or accept a junior deed of trust (if this is legal in your state or province) on his home or other property.

I have had extremely bad experiences lending people money. And not just to witnesses. Mormon bishops wife came by a few months ago with her lilttle girl who was very obviously ill. Had to take her to the hospital and buy medicine too. Could I help out? (I just know them and try to be nice to everyone if possible).

I did. I lent her the rent money and said I needed it paid back in 2 weeks. I told her it was rent money and had to have it back by that time. That was almost 6 months ago. She paid most of it back in such small amounts that it was only good to buy some food with. In the meantime I had some real financial problems. I had lent money to a lot of people. When I needed it most NO ONE paid me!

As far as the witnesses, my experience has been (when I was associated) that when you are down, everyone wants to get in on the ass-kicking. You become fair game and you deserve to be cheated, lied to and ripped off.

But, what the hey. I'm an evil apostate.

    Marcos
