The Thread Title refers to a number of times I have heard those words, or "substance thereof" LOL, from JW's.

They are referring to my/our reasons for leaving.

It occurs to me that the correct response is not a "respectful", " I understand", but rather should be :

    " Why ever not ?"

If they have "the truth" why should they not discuss and defend it ?

They can't defend it. They don't understand it themselves.

SO TRUE! Most have no idea was the doctrines were or are and frankly, they don't care. It's so close to Jim Jones that it's scary.

I had a JW get super mad at me for asking him to defend some thing he said to me while he was in "service" that I didn't agree with. I asked him to read 1 peter 3:15, he refused so I read it to him. I got just about to the part of "yet do it with gentleness and respect" and he yelled it at me. LOL

I said you do know it is YOU who need to be the gentle and respectful one, as I am the one asking and you are the one defending?

    Stormed off in a huff.

They should. They always want to be preaching to everybody else. They want the upper hand in every conversation. They want to point out the wrongs/negatives of others, but don't want anybody to do likewise to them.

JWs love to put their fingers in their ears and say la la la at the first wiff of an honest exchange of thoughts and feelings.
