Paid for insurance, but insurance is canceled

I know this is off topic... but I'm p!$$ed right now and need to vent.

I got a letter from my dentist saying that I had to pay almost $200 for some work that was recently done. The reason stated is that my insurance (health and dental) has been canceled.

I called the insurance company and they confirmed it - my insurance is canceled - but they could not give me a reason why and told me to call the company that is providing my insurance..

After that I called the company that is providing my insurance and they say that everyone responsible for insurance is gone for the holidays and therefore they could not help me.

I want to know why my insurance is canceled even though I have a cashed check sitting on my desk right now showing that I paid for it. The last time I checked, it is considered fraud to accept payment for a product or service without providing said.

If you're wondering, no I haven't had any major or odd procedures done recently. I rarely go to the Dr to begin with.

You'll have to get this straightened out ... if they accepted your payment, they have to provide the service. Plus they cannot cancel your insurance before the premium period is up and it's renewal time (usually one year at a time).

You'll have to check your state's laws regarding health insurance. Try this:

I cannot imagine that they would be able to cancel your insurance without written notification stating the reason and refunding any premiums paid. If you are paying for your own premiums, you are likely paying for a month ahead.

If you find that you do not get satisfaction when eventually speaking with someone from the insurance carrier's office- you might want to get in touch with the Insurance Commissioner for the State of TX:

    http://www.tdi.state.tx.us/commish/jose.html

Their function is to be sure that insurance carriers are in compliance with state and federal law and to investigate complaints.

Try not to think about it right now because there isn't anything you can even dig into about it until the holiday is over.

Light a fire, grab a book, turn on some music and have a Merry Christmas Eve!!!
