I received the following e-mail from Steven Hassan. He read Farkel's post about the Judge banning shunning in a JW custody battle and would like more information.

I am very interested in receiving the actual case documents.

I was involved with a custody case in Massachusetts a couple of years ago,
Kendall vs. Kendall, in which the husband joined the International Churches
of Christ (a destructive cult in my opinion) and was telling his two
children that their mother, a Jew, was going to hell. The case went to the
Mass. Supreme Court and the decision went all in favor of protecting the
children from psychological harm. In other words, the father's 'freedom of
religion' did not give him the 'freedom' to inflict psychological harm on
his children. The wife won custody and he was not allowed to bring them to
cult activities nor proselytize to them.

Please email or snail mail the relevant documents to me:

    Thanks a lot.

BTW, feel free to post these comments elsewhere if you like.

It will be several weeks before anything more can be released. This is because another hearing is upcoming. Be patient. All in due time.

Really? My ex-husband is always telling my kids (whom he takes to the meetings on Thursday nights) that I am going to die in Armagedon. I have legal custody now, but this infuriates me because my children get very bothered by this...and they beg me to go back to the meetings. I tell them why I won't go in a way that they will understand, considering their age. This really gives me something to think about next time he brings up custody issues!

    Devon,

I've e-mailed Steve. My friend is very interested in working with him.

    Waiting,

I've done as you asked. This might turn out to be a boon to my friend as her funds are very limited.

Perhaps Mr Hassan might be interested in PAYING for the information.

Mr. Hassan does not perform any of this work for charity and from what I have read charges rather large sums of money for his anti-cult services.

At what point does his making a profitable business from this stuff conflict with the interests "helping" people to escape from oppresive cults?

Why the high charges? Does he have very large overhead or insurance to pay for - like a doctor?

    Just wondering...

    Donkies aren't too smart.
