Christmas time can be very expensive for those who go overboard. How much do you figure you're going to spend this year for christmas. (gifts, food, alcohol, travelling)

JH,
Well, the kids are all grown, and we decided this year not to exchange gifts between all of us, as the family is quite large. We only bought for the grandkids, and we did not go overboard, as they have everything they need, and more than enough toys already.
I suppose, all in all, it cost under $200. Of course, hubby and I will celebrate our wedding anniversary next month, so we usually get each other something nice, or something for the home. Last year it was a TV with DVD player built in. Hubby's computer (from '92) died two weeks ago, so we went ahead and replaced it with an HP XP model from Wal-Mart, which was an expense we hadn't counted on, costing just under $1,000.
We didn't go into debt for anything, and we only use our credit cards on occasion and pay them off as soon as the bill comes, or in two segments. We learned our lesson about credit early on, and have not fallen into that trap again.
What about you?
I honestly have no idea. I do our Christmas shopping thru out the year....and really don't keep track. It probably was too much.....LOL
I tried to help the economy, I really, really did!!
Too much.
For my three adult children and my two grandchildren and my wife and what she spent on me. Last year, it was about $1,500. This year it was about $150. Last year was a fat year. This year was a lean year. I hope I don't have seven lean years, like they did in Eygpt in the Bible days. By the way, both years were just as nice. So for those Christmas critics who cry commercialism, hey you are dead wrong. I doesn't apply to me and my household.
