Merry Christmas everybody,
I remember when I had my questions for baptism, the elder asked me what my view was on Capital Punishment. He was obviously trying to confuse me. I answered how I thought a 'Christian' would answer. I said that murder is wrong and that Jesus Christ forgave and so should Christians. I was then and still am against the death penalty. Well, Bro. Elder told me that I was absolutely wrong on this, and that God created Capital Punishment as part of the Mosaic Law (an eye for an eye). When I asked, "What about the cities of refuge given so that accidental death could not be avenged with a life?" Bro Elder changed the subject, and called it a deep matter. Of course, I was only supposed to be on 'milk' then, so I should leave the meaty things of scripture alone. I should have viewed that whole exchange as a reason not to be baptized into the cult, but I didn't.
