How was your Boxing Day? Thoughts of our recent R&R came flooding back as Mrs Ozzie and I met up with friends from the navy whose company we'd enjoyed in exotic parts of the world. So we spent the day in a beachside suburb of Sydney, enjoying the light rain and sea breezes....and......one bottle my friend chose was another New South Wales shiraz. Regular readers will know that old Ozzie is trying to make up for his previous sad omission of NSW wines.

The label chosen was a little known one, originating from Mudgee in the Central West of New South Wales.

It was a Lawson's Hill Estate 1999 Dry Grown Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot. The Lawson's Hill winery is located in the country where Australia's loved poet, Henry Lawson, lived. The "Dry Grown" indicates that the vines are dry-grown, not irrigated. This results in a rich colour and intense flavour. The label claims that it's a "full-bodied" wine. Was it? Yes, we found it a satisfying drop. As they say. "mouth-filling with good length". It certainly had an enticing 'nose'.

And how about this, Path? I haven't used the word "fruity"!!! Perhaps because it wasn't!

Not sure whether this can still be found in the stores, but it's worth looking out for.

Anyway, it was a most pleasant complement to a very fine "second day" to the Christmas holiday.

    Cheers, Ozzie
