I've read a couple of Mulan's updates, thought I'd add my own. She and dad went to McDonald's so I'm playing with her 'puter.

Today is gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky and the forcast is for the same through Saturday. We've had some wind and rain but it's pretty easy to find the sun. Just get in the car and drive and soon you'll find a nice sunny spot.

The high surf you normally find this time of year on the North Shore has been surprisingly absent. The big surfing competitions you see on tv take place about 10 miles up the road at Sunset beach, Bonzai Pipeline and Waimea Bay. All those places are totally flat. We were thinking about going to Waimea Bay because it would be nice for the kids to swim there as the waves on our beach are bigger. However, there is quite a rip tide there so we are sticking to our own beach. The kids love the waves, my six year old is having a ball boogie boarding on them and doesn't mind the occasional pounding he takes. My four year old is a bit young for surfing but she loves it when we take her out beyond where the waves are breaking and jump over them as they roll in. Her auntie is her new best friend (she lives on the other side of the country) and they are having a ball playing in the surf.

Last night on the news they said they high surf was coming back and to expect 15-20 foot waves at Sunset beach. We'll probably take a drive down there to take a look tomorrow while the guys are watching football.

This afternoon we are going to the Polynesian Cultural Center to take in the luau and evening show. It should be fun. My daughter wants to learn to hula really bad and she should get her fill there. I'm sure she will be begging to go back to Hawaii as soon as we get home. She is having a great time.

The locals have a huge fireworks celebration. You can buy fireworks everywhere! Costco had huge packages of them. They are illegal in our city at home so seeing big displays at the grocery store is a bit of a surprise. We will stock up and have our own little show on the beach tonight. The lady who owns this house said if you have asthma to stay inside with the a.c. on. Must get pretty smoky!

Well, I'm off to the beach. Happy new year everyone!

Aloha and Mahalo for the updates Rachel. Glad to hear you guys are enjoying the sun. I have photos of the sun around here so I won't forget what it looks like.

I hope Steve gets to feeling better and gets a few dives in.

This is Mulan...........forgot to change the ID, after Princess posted. Whoops! (edited after I submitted this)

Little princess got a hula costume and leis for her neck and head, and wore them last night for the big show at the Polynesian Cultural Center. She loved it!!

Big red and I babysat our 2 year old grandson so his Mom and Dad could enjoy the show more. We will go later this week.

Fireworks are big in Hawaii, and very loud. The sky was full of smoke last night. The man next door had a party, complete with a terrible band, that played really loud, really late. They invited us over, but we stayed behind and drank champagne and had our own fireworks to bring in the new year.

The men are watching football, and after several hours on the beach, we gals are heading to Honolulu to go shopping. It's 1PM here. Aloha!!

Aloha, the big gang in Hiwaii!

Glad to hear everyone is having fun. I remember when I was a little girl and my grandmother brought me back a green hola skirt from Hiwaii. I had so much fun with that skirt. I hope little princess is having fun in her skirt and leis too.

Enjoy the warm sunshine and beautiful blue water. Hope scuba diving is great tomorrow!

Aloha and mahalo for the updates Mulan. Yep I'm sure things are boring over there. Stupid 80 degree days to go along with the 80 degree ocean temperatures. Why would anyone want to go there????

Enjoy, reality will set in soon.
