Slide shows

    Growing up I remember the only excitement for the public talk was if it was a slide show. Once the first one happened, I always looked at the windows of the hall to see if there was aluminum foil on them. If it was, boy did I get excited. Don't remember too much about them, other than it was a great change from the normal boring as hell talks.

    This must have been in the 70's and 80's. Do they still have these slide shows, or are they extinct? Usually I think the circuit overseer did these, or maybe it was those "special talks."

    Outside of special talks or Circuit overseers visits, I think the regular elders giving talks are made to stick with their outlines, unless they want the wrath of mother WT.

    I think the slides on Sundays were relegated to the dark, dank bowels of Dubdom-Land, along with costume parties and anything else that was fun........for the simple reason that they were actually INTERESTING!!!

    I used to thoroughly enjoy the slides when we had them; boy the time just flew by. They should have some slides again on Sunday:

    PEDOPHILES - ARE THEY REALLY THAT BAD?

    1. Here's a picture of Brother A going out in service in his nice new navy suit;

    2. And here's a picture of him going to visit a spiritually weak family with a 9 year old daughter. See how affectionate he is to her?

    3. Here's another picture of him with his arm around the same young girl. She doesn't look too happy, but that's probably because her parents are spiritually weak. Brother A will be a good influence on her and her parents have agreed to let him study with her in private!

    3. And here's a picture of Brother A 15 years later, (again in his threadbare navy suit), along with his lawyer on the way to court. Brother A has been witnessing to his lawyer on a regular basis about the New System and how it will bring an end to all our problems.

    4. Here he is being handcuffed and led away after being found "guilty" of child molestation. The charges were brought by that daughter of a spiritually weak family and it is obvious that she cannot be trusted because no one else ever witnessed him doing anything bad to her. We understand that she now sees a worldly psychologist and it is obvious that she's an apostate and we plan on disfellowshipping her at our earliest convenience.

    5. And here's a picture of Brother A witnessing to all his cellmates in prison. Brother A was approved for Regular Pioneer work starting this month, and will be assigned to even greater responsibilities when he gets out in 15 years.

    6. And finally, here's a picture of Brother A in the hospital after some really awful cellmates physically and sexually abused him. Seeing as he screamed like a donkey during the abuse, he will not be disfellowshipped for fornication.

    Yes, I remember them! Usually it was an elder that had traveled to a different country. He would come back and share his slides with us of others in different congregations. I think that they later cracked down on that.....they became more like home movies and didn't fit the theocratic standards, I guess.

    Freedom, I remember those well. I always got so excited cause it was one of the few times I wouldn't be falling asleep or getting up for umpteen bathroom breaks.

    Flashback!

    I haven't thought about those slide presentations in years. They were good though. Kept me awake, being a kid at the time. It usually was announced earlier during the week, so the congregation always had a BIG turnout. Every seat was taken.

    I believe they discontinued those slide presentations. I haven't seen one since the late 80's when I was a teenager. But then again, it wouldn't matter. I'm doing the slow fade and when they look back in line, they'll find my place vacant.

    Toward the conclusion of the slide talk there would always be a few shots of mountains and forests and rivers and stuff. "In the new order, the whole of the planet will be brought back to the paradise that Jehovah originally intended for the first human pair - don't you want to be a part of restoring this Earth for the glory of Jehovah?" Every slide talk would end like that - no matter what the subject was. The lights would come back on, we would squint as our eyes got used to the light. We would then clap politely - and think "Now the Watchtower study - how awful!"
