Quote from "Christianity Today" - February 2nd 2001:

Witness Leaders Accused of Shielding Molesters

Former and current Jehovah Witnesses question a policy they say discourages leaders from reporting abuse.

By Corrie Cutrer | posted 2/2/01

Jeff Tucker, one of the Mount Shasta Kingdom Hall elders, says there were not enough eye-witnesses to go to the police. Tucker believes the family is just trying to cause trouble. "They were disfellowshipped," Tucker says. "They're just trying to create problems and bring reproach on Jehovah's name and his organization."

Quotes from "Tri-City Herald" (Washington) News - January 23rd 2002:

Jehovah's Witnesses congregation in Othello sued in sex abuse case

    This story was published 1/23/2002

    By Shirley Wentworth

[J.R.] Brown said he is aware that numerous cases have been posted on Internet sites such as www.silentlambs.org or www.freeminds.org detailing pedophilia within the Jehovah's Witnesses church.

But he maintains most of the stories were posted by people who underwent abuse back in the 1980s, when all of society was grappling with the issue.

"Regrettably, many children probably were molested," he said.

He said the church has made strong policy changes since then, including taking suspected or convicted pedophiles out of any position in the church, not allowing them to be alone with children and various other restrictions.

Regrettably, they still have their moronic 2-eyewitness policy. Regrettably, the JW hierarchy as a whole (represented by local congregation elders) continues to shame victims into silence. Regrettably, known molestors continue to go door-to-door where children can be found.

JR Brown doesn't show enough regret. That's very regrettable. He sits there in his comfortable Brooklyn apartment, not having to worry about being victimized, and not having to worry about showing real compassion.

Well, if he's seen freeminds.org, then he's seen this forum since freeminds links this forum at the Netsoup.

I wonder how JR Brown not have a conscience after reading the abuse stories, the false prophecies, doctrinal changes, etc.

    He amazes me.

Note...the only thing that will change the Society's policy regarding abuse is some sort of monetary penalty. When the Society has to start paying millions of dollars for abuse victims as well as their attornies' fees, then believe me, policies will change. Until then, quotes such as those made by JR Brown will continue to be made and their policy will continue to remain the same. It's as cut and dry as that! No corporation, whether it's the WTBTS or Microsoft will change their policy on something unless it hits them in their pocketbook. The day the Society ever changes their policy on anything because of having compassion for the R&F, is the day I return to the KH!

Here's a great quote from this thread. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=38146&site=3

However, J.R. Brown, a national spokesman for the organization, said that while Jehovah's Witnesses deal strictly with child abuse within the congregation, it isn't the church's job to report abuse. "Nothing prevents them from callĀing the authorities," Brown said. "They don't have to call us first. These things operate separately. If the offender is part of the congregation, we will deal with it in a church setting.

But if they are also reported to the authorities, we will not try to shield them

Not their Job? Not in a mandatory reporting state? I love this guy, he hurts the society more than helping it

    Thanks for your comments.

Here are some of my comments and thoughts on the two Quotes I posted above:

Jeff Tucker, one of the Mount Shasta Kingdom Hall elders, says there were not enough eye-witnesses to go to the police.

That is an extremely revealing quote.

J.R. Brown has been telling the Media over and over and over again, that the "Two-Witness Rule" has nothing to do with whether or not JW's go to the Police, and that JW's are completely free to go to Police with NO sanctions.

That Elder, Jeff Tucker, told the Media that "there were not enough eye-witnesses to go to the police" -- that means that this Elder is stating that the "Two-Witness Rule" means that JW's are NOT allowed to go to the Police unless there are Two Eye-Witnesses -- a direct contradiction to what J.R. Brown has been telling the Media!

Tucker believes the family is just trying to cause trouble. "They were disfellowshipped," Tucker says. "They're just trying to create problems and bring reproach on Jehovah's name and his organization."

Then, Jeff Tucker blames the VICTIMS, and says that the VICTIMS are "just trying to create problems and bring reproach on Jehovah's name and his organization."

I want to see Jeff Tucker interviewed on live Television -- Come on CNN, or FOX, or someone -- Interview Jeff Tucker!

[J.R.] Brown said he is aware that numerous cases have been posted on Internet sites such as www.silentlambs.org or www.freeminds.org detailing pedophilia within the Jehovah's Witnesses church.

That means J.R. Brown is an "Apostate" who deserves to be Disfellowshipped for looking at "Apostate" Websites!

But he maintains most of the stories were posted by people who underwent abuse back in the 1980s, when all of society was grappling with the issue.

Yes, the poor old Watchtower Society was just "grappling with the issue" like the rest of the WICKED WORLDLY PEOPLE, but us JW's have MUCH HIGHER MORAL STANDARDS than those EVIL WORLDLY PEOPLE, except on Child Abuse, and well, Rape, and uh, Physical Abuse, and uh.....

He said the church has made strong policy changes since then, including taking suspected or convicted pedophiles out of any position in the church, not allowing them to be alone with children and various other restrictions.

Now this is a very good quote to keep handy -- J.R. Brown is admitting to the Media that Official Watchtower Child Abuse Policy in the 1980's was A BAD POLICY!

J.R. Brown is admitting that in the 1980's, Watchtower Policy ALLOWED "suspected or convicted pedophiles" to hold positions of authority in the Organization!

J.R. Brown is admitting that in the 1980's, Watchtower Policy ALLOWED "suspected or convicted pedophiles" to be alone with children!

Jehovah's Witnesses deal strictly with child abuse within the congregation

Interesting play with words here, so when the abusee is df'd (for not staying silent) they are not within the congregation and the org does'nt have to do anything about it ?

And if the abusee is in, then the org rules apply.

Very clever lawyer words these !
