I remember about 12 years ago, we stopped receiving the watchtower and awake magazines through the mail. Who remembers the reason for that? Afterwards, we had to get them ourselves at the hall. If these magazines were still sent through the mail, many inactive people would still be reading theses today. This would have been good for inactive people who are somewhat interested. But they probably wanted to save money someway and told us to get them ourselves at the hall. Do you think that this played a trick on them, since inactive people can't get them?

I would think that not sending the magazines out has hurt their sales. Think about how many more people would suscribe just for the hell of it. Many of us here on this site, though we want nothing to do with the WTS, would suscribe for the humor of it.
People are lazy by nature, and making them go to the meetings to get the magazines is going to continue to prove difficult. Even for the interested one at the door, they must trust that the witness is going to actually go pick him up his copies, which may not happen like in my case where it was easier not to go to the return visit.

Hubby still gets his..they will expire soon. Then no more sub. So it is still being done until the subs run out.
I think that they weren't getting enough"Donations" to cover the printing!. Let alone the postage!...Greedy!
That's why they are trying to cut costs now...

I think it helps them retain their 'secret society' stance.
No one gets to argue, point out lunacies or say too much of anything about anything if no one except the KH attendies really gets a chance to read anything.
It helps keep level-headedness, sanity, common sense and reason at bay as much as possible.
Very useful for keeping JWs from straying to far from the WT teet.
