Some weeks ago I attended the funeral of a JW sister. The service was taken by a brother who claims to be of the anointed, although he holds no position in the congregation.

At one point he looked directly at one of the elders in attendance and said, pointedly, "It does not matter what religion you claim to belong to. You could be Catholic, LDS, Adventist, JW, or even the pope himself, but if you do not demonstrate love as Jesus did you are not a true disciple and will not benefit from the biblical hope of ressurection."

While to a point I agree with this sentiment was is not an amazing thing to say at the funeral. The elder to whom it was directed turned all sorts of colours and looked as if his ears would blow off.

    What do you think?!!!!

I'm thinking that this brother may not be a brother for long.

The guy giving the talk might be ex-alive if he keeps on harassing this guy........everybody has a breaking point. What an asshole.

You have given us no background, but I would guess that this is an old brother , been around for decades, loved by the cong. , but likes to be a thorn in the side of the elders, who are a lot younger than he is.

There are some of his type around, thank goodness . They cannot really be controlled by the elders because of the esteem that the brothers have for them

A funeral is one case where he can have the opportunity to speak, because the family choses the conductor. He will be kept in the back row of the Hall for a while, and he might find it hard to get his hand taken if he answers in the Watchtower study.

No position in the congregation and was chosen over the elders? I'm sure the deceased's family know and love this old brother, and probably because he's known for coming out with stuff like that. Good for them! Maybe they've been visiting this forum!

Plenty of astute comments from you all, friends.

The brother in question is much older than the elders and has been a thorn in their side for some time. He says what he thinks, one of his favorites being "if it's in the Bible I believe it, if it's from the elders. I don't!" He holds to many thoughts not "officially" sanctioned by the WTBTS but which make a hell of a lot of sense. He'd be great in this forum, but I think even he would find that a bridge too far. Shame.

Each weekend he goes preaching in the inner cities, much against the cong. directives. Lot's more I could tell you about him, but I think he has an attitude that is lacking in the society and that is one reason why forums such as this arise. Where is the love??? Nowhere, often!!!!
