Grandson Refuses Blood

My grandson was involved in working accident this past Saturday and after waiting 2 hours before any doctor checked him out, they released him and told him to return Monday for a further check up. Well, Monday comes and after examination, they told him (different doctors) that he needed surgery because he had a hole in his intestine. My fleshly brother who is an elder and the blood committee went through their spiel with the blood issue. The doctor said, since he is 19 years of age, that is HIS decision? My grandson refuse the blood and after some hours of recovery from surgery, his grandmother (my wife) was allowed to see him, recognizing his grandmother, he slipped his hands from under covers to hold her hand. My wife stayed in the hand holding position throughout the night. I know that the intial hour or so is the most crucial after surgery. Though it was critical at first, he is stablizing.

Why the doctors release him with a hole in his intestine is irresponsible especially when one of the company employer's asked the doctors if he had any internal injuries. They told the employer that they know what their doing. Yeah, just like the women who's two breast were void of cancer were wrongfully removed. Most likely he will be staying with us (my wife and I) after being released from the hopspital. Once again, the friends will have to come to the home a disfellowshipped witness to see a fellow witness. The last time is when I took in my mother, and NOBODY in the cong. volunteered to take care of her including my fleshly younger brother who is an elder. I do what common sense dictates. I'll get more information to my grandson's condition as the day progresses, right now, he needs the rest to recover.

You sound like wonderfrul grandparents to take him in and help him recover. Not many people would do so with your cricumstances.

while he is 19 and able to make his own decisions he is only looking at things from a JW side, maybe when he's better ask him some questions to make him think or have something he can read. If you don't want a ton of witnesses coming over, set limits, it's your house and he needs time to recover. best to you all.

Hole in the intestine? That's a damn dangerous situation. Have the doctors assured anyone that he has a clean perionetum? Zounds, that's dangerous and if the docs are THAT stupid anything could happen.

Suggest you watch his temperature. If it so much as twitches in an upward direction, I'd have that boy in the best hospital I could find. Is he on any antibiotics? He oughta be on Cipro in my opinion. Man, I just don't like anything having to do with getting the intestinal contents into the abdominal cavity.

Best of Luck. I hope you'll let us know how he's doing.

Geeze, I'm really sorry to hear about this. I know it's very stressful. Unfortunately, as he's 19 years old, he made the decision for himself (alibit by being brainwashed). Thank god he pulled through. I know when I had my surgery a few months ago, I went and donated my own blood in case it was needed during surgery. It wasn't, but I have absolutely no regrets about doing it.

And isn't it amazing (and nauseating) how quickly the Christ-like attitude of everyone in the Hall evaporates like a drop of water on a hot stove, when they're really needed. Oh yes, we're the only true Christians on earth because we go to 5 meetings a week and bug the shit out of everyone in the neighbourhood on Saturday mourning (yes, I spelt that right!). But boy, if someone ever needs some sort of material or emotional help, and they all turn a blind eye.

I'm curious though: why is your grandson coming to stay with you for his recuperation? Where are his parents?

I think you're a site better Christian than those dopes at your Hall. And I'd seriously consider a lawsuit against those stupid doctors too.

Thank you all for your concerns. My second son just returned from the hospital about ten minutes ago and told me that the doctors have some concerns. I've been waiting for my wife's call to verify his story. I'll be gone for the rest of the day, so any further info. from me will come later. Thanks all.
