    12/1 1990 Wathtower:

Why do you not operate hospitals or clinics and engage in relief work and other social services as many religious groups do?

Jehovah's Witnesses quickly respond to emergencies in the aftermath of war or natural disaster when they can. In fact, usually they are among the first on the scene with food, clothing, and volunteers to help with rebuilding.

    Oh PPUUULLLLEEEAAASSSEEE !!!!

However, Jehovah's Witnesses do not operate hospitals or clinics, any more than they run fire departments or police forces, which are also for the preservation of life.

Why don't they? They can operate hospitals and fire departments and clinics for JWs only. This way here they won't have to preserve the lives of any wordly people of satan's organization. I'm sure satan's wordly people would still donate their blood to their hospital so that JWs can break it down and save only the fractions the bible says is ok to accept when needed to keep the sanctity of life. Seeing as how they can't donate blood, they can rely on us for the blood to be broken down into fractions.

I'm glad all humankind aren't Jehovah's Witnesses. If ALL people had the view they do, the reality would be that their would be NO hopitals...NO fire departments...and NO clinics for the preservation of life. There would be no body to operate them! I thank god for wordly people!

At the facility the WTS has a trained volunteer firemen crew to protect the WTS property. That is a poor county and the county can't afford to pay for these services to the WTS. For the sake of peace, the WTS provides the service for itself and then pats itself on the back.

Yes, they are the first on the site at times but only to provide services for deserving JWs not anybody in need. I can see it now as the brothers step over the starving "worldly" person to give their supplies to the JWs, first. Then if anything is leftover maybe that person will be helped. But everyone will be witnessing to them.

I think you have the picture, somebody.

    you know whats really sad?

i used to believe this $5&! years ago. when i read in the watchtower and awake rags that jw's were "there" in a time of need, i thought, wow. what "kind and loving" people. horsepoop.

i know more worldy people who are genuinely kind and loving than jw's ever were.

what can i say. i knew when i read it it kinda sounded a little wierd. why was it jw's were always "first on the scene" ?

cuz, the writer stretched the "truth" a little eh?

dang. i'm glad i know what the real story is now.

    liberated and loving it...

Zev: I believed it too, as did most who post here! Except that when there were local disasters (floods, ice storms, etc.) where people were injured, or killed, or there was immense property damage, no dubs were around, much less "first on the scene". Often it was the army and the Red Cross and regular, "worldly" people helping out. And they didn't even bother to ask for a person's religious affiliation before helping! Go figure!

    hi blondie!

yes,,, I do get the picture. very clearly!

    zev,

I knew it wasn't true because back in the 7Os I remember being taught to help ONLY fellow JWs in times of need. And not to give donations to any charities but to the society and the congregation. And even then, the Society was telling us rank and file members to help only each other. I doubt very much that the multi-million dollar Society helped any JW families in need. Do you remember that family from your old Kingdom Hall who was burned out of their home? The newspaper article said that firefighters and the Red Cross were on the seen to help the family with clothing, to house them, and to help any way they can. When a family is burned out of their home, and now own nothing more than what they happen to be wearing, it's tramatizing and it IS an emergency. Do you think the congregation wrote the society telling them what happened? Do you honesly think the society would pitch in with the congregation and cut the family a check to help them or tell the congregation to take such and such an amount from the congregations fund and make the family out a check?

I'm not saying that JWs didn't help the family because I know that they would ( unless they were disfellwshipped of course! ). But I'm saying that the Red Cross can say they are usually among the first on the scence to help and they are not lying. I've seen it over and over again. I've NEVER seen JWs show up to help others who aren't "of their sort" or "one of them". I've NEVER read in the paper that JWs were the first on the scene to help either. Not even ONCE.

I'm gald you've had flashes of light for the past 5 years.

Paul told Timothy there were rules to be followed if you were to help widows. They had to be at least 60 years old, married once, raised children, good to strangers, washed feet, did good works, otherwise you didn't make the list to be helped. The WT is just following the rules.1 Tim 5:9

Also you had to sell all your posessions and place the money at the apostles feet(WT Society) If you kept any back you would be killed like Ananias and her husband. Don't you see the scriptual precident?

    gwen,

Do you remember that family from your old Kingdom Hall who was burned out of their home?

yes i do. very well. a family of 5 they were. very nice people .

The newspaper article said that firefighters and the Red Cross were on the seen to help the family with clothing, to house them, and to help any way they can. When a family is burned out of their home, and now own nothing more than what they happen to be wearing, it's tramatizing and it IS an emergency.

yeah. i agree. they were burned out so quick, and everyone was home. their family dog died in that fire. the emergency (VOLUNTEER!) fire fighters saved the shell of the house, but the insides were completely gone. i remember they were well taken care of after that to.

did jw's help? yes, after the emergency was over.

Do you think the congregation wrote the society telling them what happened?

nope. the society did nothing. they never knew about it, because its expected that the "locals" will foot the bill, and the labour to "help out". george told me himself that (woops! name slipped ) his insurance took care of it all, and the rebuilding was done with the money from the insurance coverage. he did most of the work himself along with his wife.

Do you honesly think the society would pitch in with the congregation and cut the family a check to help them or tell the congregation to take such and such an amount from the congregations fund and make the family out a check?

    no. never.

this reminds me of another story i can share later on this thread.

when i get home from work i'll type it out. course i'll tell ya about it first
